I missed a company rehearsal on Monday, so I was playing catch-up last night. In the modern piece, L was teaching me a section and she made the mistake of saying, "Well, actually, it was a full-throttle run-and-slide, but we changed it to a snake-like movement because B and I couldn't do it."
Then I do what I always do and go, "Like .... this?" And proceed to run from one corner of the studio to the other and do a massively huge flip-slide on the floor.
I should explain this better, I think. Dance studio floors are hard and cold, for the most part, and we're not dancing in a ritzy place that can afford a Marley floor. We're on cement covered in wood. On top of that, I'm a contemporary dancer, and we're usually of the opinion that turning and leaping with shoes on is something of a disgrace, so I dance barefoot (my feet are just the prettiest things on the planet, I assure you, with all the callouses and scars).
It took the remainder of the rehearsal for me to figure out that the aching in my left foot was because of a killer floorburn on top of my foot just ankle-ward of my big toe. And it HURTS today. I don't even want to think how it will feel when I have to shove my feet into tap shoes here soon.
Le sigh. The trials of stupid daredevil dancers.
