There's always that curiosity - that wonder - what drives a person to be where they are? Maybe it's a product of our own selfish desires; desires that the Order tries with great difficulty to make us forget. There is no council here, in this place, in this time, but my loyalties are tied so intricately with the council that I cannot for a moment

Black and brown are the most common hair and eye colors for any person from my version of earth, generally. They are the dominant trait. Anything else is a pretty rarity.

In my world, among humans, that's also generally the case.

And those pretty rarities?

Well blue and green eyes are also common enough, but some planets have tendencies to special variations in the genome. But my background in biology is sparse, compared to my background in physics.

I met someone the other day with red eyes and black scleras. I'm not sure that this is typical of anywhere. I want to learn more about things like that.

I wonder what it is that you say makes you curious.

Do you mean about eye color?

You're interested in genetic variation in the human genome?

Yes. I can't imagine anyone from anywhere would have black scleras, and yet at least one man here does. It only goes to teach a person that in a place like this, whatever conventions he holds will eventually come to doubts.

In the general, yes. Specifically, mutation of the human genome.

There are some species that have predominantly black scleras, because of light quality and starlight refraction on the planet they inhabit, and some human subspecies have evolved in that manner.
