Beginners Bandom Podfic List

I've talked before about how I got into bandom by way of podfic. Yesterday, fire-juggler saw that I'd finished my MCR Epic Discipline and Punish (coming in at 18 hours long) and decided to dip into bandom.

There are LOTS of bandom primers out there, ( frank/gerard, mcr, panic!, general) but I wanted to put together a beginners bandom podfic primer/rec list. I

Some non MCR/Panic!/FOB podfics:

Being on One Tree Hill Means Never Having to Say You're Sorry by knight_tracer. Alex/Ryland from Cobra Starship, my secret favourite bandom band and my secret favourite Cobra pairing and my secret favourite trope (high school AU!) Basically, this is a podfic of awesome. It's so teenagey and funny and adorable, and I'd rec basically anything knight_tracer's done because her voice is so lovely. (yeah, hi, you said you were uncomfortable with self-reccing SO I AM DOING IT FOR YOU :D)

Speaking of knight_tracer, TAI TV and Other Fictions. Like bessyboo I am biased because she made this for me but I would love it anyway because wow. It's not an AU, but it's only vaguely grounded in canon (you could pretend they're tv stars! They should totally be tv stars) and it's short enough that I'd say it's worth it.

Since We've Got No Place to Go by greedy_dancer. Gabe/William. I have no idea how to describe this except to steal greedy_dancer's description: pregnant fairies in love! It's hilarious and adorable and FAIRIES, PREGNANT FAIRIES IN LOVE, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT. ♥♥

Finally Hit the Spot by desert_neon. Gabe/William. Another shortish canon fic but you really don't need to know anything about them (just that they are/were both in bands who toured together a lot and William used to hero-worship Gabe something crazy and they kind of love each other a lot). This is angsty and heartachey but it's genuinely one of the most beautiful things I've ever listened to. I have a thing for angst, though, it's terrible.

Table Stakes by pennyplainknits. Gabe/William (nope, I don't have an agenda here, none at all :D) also canonish, but it's bb!Bill (I think he's seventeen?) getting picked up by Gabe after a show. It's really funny, but kind of adorable with it (which is just them all over, which is why you should love them too!) Listen to it for Penny if nothing else, her podfics are always wonderful.

Also, um, a crossover pairing podfic! Never Needed It Now So Much by skoosiepants. Kevin Jonas/Mike Carden, who are my actualfax not even remotely secret favourites. The Jonas Brothers aren't technically in bandom but god, they should be. This is a high school AU where Kevin is a faily dork and Mike is the superhot guy who he accidentally pushes into a pool at their school and then won't stop stalking him. It is hilarious and adorable (clearly, I have a type) and skoosiepants has an amazing accent.

Any Note You Can Reach by pennyplainknits. Brendon/Gerard tourfic! Possibly save this until after you've listened to a lot of other podfics 'cause it's pretty heavy on the tour aspect, but it's so, so worth it.

Sing Ourselves to Sleep by inkjunket. Gerard/Patrick Summer of Like fic; possibly save this until you're more familiar with the fandom. It's one of the first bandom podfics I listened to, and it's wonderful. Kind of bittersweet at times, but also funny and charming and a lovely portrayal of their relationship. Also, I am a little bit in love with inkjunket's voice, it's so soothing and her accent is lovely.

Stars When You Shine You Know How I Feel by pennyplainknits. Patrick/Spencer, college AU. Funny and adorable, Penny is the best thing since sliced bread, you know the drill, except this has the additional amazingness of being about drummers, which, yeah. It's awesome.

by lalejandra. Ryan/Spencer, pretty firmly rooted in canon but you should be able to understand it anyway. I think. It's such a great portrayal of the two of them, as best friends and more than friends, and it's kind of heartbreaking at times but it's also really sweet too, and so real.

Social Activism (Or, How to Make the World a Better Place by Kissing Spencer Smith by opalsong. Gerard/Spencer. SO ADORABLE. I love these two together, and Gerard being ~political will never not be hilarious.

For I Am Legion by inkjunket. Gerard/Mikey, so big warning for incest, though nothing massively explicit. Also a crossover with Lost Souls (which I'm not familiar with, but it's easy enough to understand anyway) and the whole thing has this really eerie, ominous feeling. inkjunket's voice is perfect for the creepiness; it gave me goosebumps to listen to.

The One in Which Frank Wears Socks & Bob Acts on His Queenly Impulses by nanasauras. Bob/Frank. Hilarious, adorable, nanasauras has the most adorable voice, etc. This is one of my favourites; I wish there was more Bob/Frank podfic.
