I've talked before about how I got into bandom by way of podfic. Yesterday, fire-juggler saw that I'd finished my MCR Epic Discipline and Punish (coming in at 18 hours long) and decided to dip into bandom.

Oh, wait, I went through this again and one addition I would make is Falter's You can find out first hand which is Mikey/Alicia bodyswap. With cicadas in the background. I love it!

Also, it breaks my heart that people who're just getting into bandom podfic won't get to hear the amazing work done by a certain podficcer who left the fandom. She'd recorded the 1st part of bexless' Unholy Verse and the amazing, amazing His ruins were beautiful, and they're the podfics that pretty much got me into podfic in the first place... So if people are interested they can contact me in private.

I was doing my best to make it a 'beginners' list and NOT a 'all the amazing podifc bandom produces' list. So no podfic referencing music videos or relying too much on non-band characters.

I've never listened to the Mikey/Alicia one /o\ - DLing right the fuck now.

\o/ I am an evil mastermind and I totally did this for personal gain. :) I hope you find things you like. I am totally on board with the DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING idea. But, I hope the categories turn out to be useful too.

lol. Well, it will be strategic downloading (cross-overs and AUs first, generally), but they will all be DL-ed eventually :D

If crossovers are your thing there are more - I think reena_jenkins has done quite a few that aren't on my list - Harry Potter, SGA, Discworld.

Just dropping in, haven't read the post yet (but am headed there now) - there is no such thing as going overboard with podfic, or bandom!

I seriously didn't know a thing about bandom, or the bands, and podfic got me into it. PatD, and MCR are me favs, but I like FOB & Cobra Starship, too. I just didn't know, until bandom podfic got me to listen!

And when I first started reading/listening, I was all about Gerard being the hottest. And all "Mikey Way? Really?" Now? Don't know if it's the dark hair, the LASIK... but man! MikeyWay is hot!!!

Mikey's hotness can be stealthy like that. You've seen him before and you're like 'really?' and then there's the right pic, and suddenly you can't un-see it. I considered giving Mikey his own section.

PatD and MCR have the most content to work from, but I have have so much affection for ALL of them.

As Close As It Gets To Home, written by airgiodslv and read by Group Slashpad (diurnal_lee, paraka & kronos999). Brendon/Ryan, Jon/Spencer, Frank/Gerard.

This is a MUST for Bandom newbies. It's a telepath AU, where Brendon, Spencer and Ryan are telepaths working for the police department. Gerard is their supervisor (also a telepath), Jon is their shrink, and Frank also works for the police. It's perfect for beginners because, besides being an AU (which lends itself well to introducing characters anyway), it gives you a flavor of the larger bandom cast, but doesn't overwhelm you--it's tightly focused on Panic + Frank & Gerard (with a bit of Mikey). Aside from those six (/seven), it has mentions of Ray, Bob, and William, but doesn't try to shoehorn in a million people. Also it's just an amazing, gorgeous podfic of an incredible fic. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR ANYONE, but especially perfect for beginners.
