My honey took me to
Skyline Chili yesterday. I was warned, ahead of time, that it was NOT the kind of chili that I was used to... So I was (somewhat) prepared. Had I gone into the experience, thinking "Chili" I think I would have been very disappointed. However, it was suggested that I think of it as a "meat sauce" and then I would not be expecting chili-taste and getting something WAY different.
It worked well.
I ordered a "4-way with onions" (which translates to: a bed of spaghetti noodles, topped with Skyline Chili, onions or red beans of which I chose onions, and cheese). Not bad, on a scale from 1 to 10... I give it a 7. :)
Reading the back of the menu, it appears to be a Greek recipe. Which explains the other Greek items on the menu. I could not detect ANY tomato sauce/paste at all, and the ground beef was VERY finely ground and then boiled (rather than browned on a stove top). I have also been told that it has cocoa powder and cinnamon in it, though I could detect neither. It was not spicy-hot at all.
I have now been initiated, as far as Cinci-Chili is concerned. So, I guess the next thing to do, is to try
Gold Star Chili, which is another Cincinnati-type "Chili". Sheryl said it's a bit more spicy. I look forward to it. :D
