Posted this earlier to FF.net and AO3 and Tumblr (sort of). Suppose I ought to post it here.

And BEFORE you complain that this isn't more DUST: Yes, I'm aware. Still working on DUST. There's two chapters of it up over at the Elysian Fields archive site that aren't posted anywhere else. Go read those. :) I'll post the rest when I'm done ( Read more... )

I loved this. Hook is easily one of my favourite characters and you did him justice here. Who indeed is he without vengeance?

(and yes, I'm a Hook/Swan shipper, although I'm also a Swan/Bae shipper, so however it plays out in canon, I'm good!)

I love Hook. Not just because he's pretty (and he is that), but because the idea of this man fascinates me. For more than 300 years (if we're counting correctly) he's been chasing Rumpelstiltskin to avenge the death of a woman he was with for less than a handful of years. By this point the memory of her is probably so faded that it's the ghost of a ghost of a ghost. And yet, maybe it's because of Neverland, but his need for vengeance is just as strong now as it ever was, if not more so because now it's literally ALL he has left ( ... )

Just wonderful. Gold is probably my favorite character on the show but this really made me stop and consider Hook. I am a couple of episodes behind but reading this makes me want to catch up. Guess I know what I will be doing on my day off tomorrow.

I love Hook. He's one of the more fascinating characters on the show, I think.

Though I also love Gold, too. I feel like Gold has a VERY long way to go to make up for the things he's done, and I wish he'd man up because I want him to be worthy of Belle. But that kind of path to redemption I totally dig.

Actually I think Hook and Rumpel have this in common: if they ever truly GET the thing they think that they want--then what will be left for them? Rump's wants his son back, wants Bae's forgiveness, but he's done very little to actually EARN that forgiveness. And if he does get it, what then? Time has moved on. Bae has grown up. He'll never get that back.

Hook will never get Milah back.

I think they're so blinded by the past that they can't see the future clearly enough to recognize that they could be happy again, if they could just let go.
