Thoughts on iPods and Podcasts

So, for those who aren't aware, I drive an hour each way to and from work each workday. This means that I spend about two hours in the car, Monday through Friday. Ten hours per week. That's a fair amount of time, particularly in an area with no kickass radio stations. As a consequence, I have grown to consider my iPod to be indispensable. I've ( Read more... )

There are a few of those I might want to check out. I'd suggest the Democracy Now podcast as one of the best newscasts I've ever heard (I have a total girl-crush on Amy Goodman).

Heh. I may do so. I'm a bit full-up on my listening schedule at the moment, particularly since Martin has taken so much of my attention lately, but we'll see. Thanks for the suggestion, however.

I love listening to Jim Lehrer as well as the Woot podcast. They totally crack me up. If you are looking for another good deal of the day web site, check out tanga.com. They have some good stuff, some crappy stuff and have some cool puzzles you can solve. If you like money management podcasts, Jim Kramer has some good ones.

I fear that if I started surfing yet another deal website, Bryn would string me up, but thanks for the pointer. I'm not a fan of money management commentary at present, largely because I have so little money to manage. That said, Lehrer is pretty damn funny, as are the Woot folks. :)

This American Life has just started free weekly podcasts as well. You can only get the most recent episode, not archives, but it's something.

I've always found This American Life to be a little bit too ... precious for me. It was one thing when it came on the radio after listening to Car Talk or something, but I'm not as enamoured with it as some folks are.

...but thanks for the heads-up. :)

The first three books are all narrated by Roy Dotrice (who played Wesley Windham-Price's disapproving father in Angel and Mozart's disapproving father in Amadeus),

More importantly, he was Father in Beauty and the Beast.

Man, what a Father Figure.

And I think I've figured out how to burn Moore's commentaries as a secondary audio track on a DVD.

Ooooh. That's a nifty thing. Bryn and I just finished the first half of Season 2.0, and it took a great deal of mental fortitude not to push into Season 2.5.

Good stuff.

I too am a podcast freak. I listen at work and in the car. So thanks for the heads up on some new fare.

For you I recommend

Decoder Ring Theatre, both their Red Panda Adventures and their Black Jack Justice series are fantastic half-hour shows. They release every other week alternating between either RP or BJJ. You can download via itunes or through their website at www.decoderringtheatre.com
