Impromptu Icing

Jan 08, 2006 22:51

So I ended up throwing a quick get-together this evening to mock moonandserpent for turning one year older, and within a little more than an hour of deciding upon this, a dozen people descended on our apartment, which was delightfully more than I expected, particularly for something I decided to pull together in such a last-minute fashion. (Apologies, by the by, if anyone would have liked to have attended and wasn't invited. It was very haphazardly organized.)

In any event, I ended up throwing together a cake from a mix (Boo! Hiss!), but I made my own icing, stealing eclectician's recipe for brandy butter that he sent to be used with the pudding that he mailed us in December. The pudding, by the by, was amazing, and the brandy butter was good enough that when I decided to use the cinnamon swirl cake mix, I knew what icing I needed.

Brandy Butter

1/2 lb butter (softened)
3 cups powdered sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp powdered nutmeg
1/4 cup brandy (in my case, cherry brandy)

Instructions: Mix well. Really well. That's it.

In any event, it seemed to go pretty well, all things considered. Thanks to prosewitch for bringing plates, sapphohestia for bringing ice cream, and saracariad for bringing strawberries.
