A week ago right now, we were wrapping up our first GSM MINI Poker Run. 25 MINIs, 6 hours of combined stops for playing cards, lunch, and ferry boats and driving, over 100 miles looping in and around the Greater Baton Rouge area, in 100℉+ heat... an amazing time even if a bit sweaty and exhausted afterwards. My bff of choice℠ rode shotgun with me and did an amazing job co-piloting through it all. Our poker hand was a sad one so we didn't win any prizes, but it didn't matter to us.
I met a new interesting guy on the journey who has a dark charcoal/black roof MINI Cooper S with racing seats (with harnesses) and real US European license plates! Apparently he's in the Army, newly stationed at Fort Polk, but he bought his MINI while he was stationed in Germany, thus the US Euro plates. Freaking cool. His name is Erik also (how weird, right?). Anyhow, I got the chance to know him better because he was hanging out with Collin, Holli, and the adorable gay guys Jeff and Dustin at the Quinta when Jessie and I showed up late that night to drink and carouse. We all ended up drinking at Port (I can apparently down shots easier than ever now), breakfasting at Louie's, before returning to the hotel. Jessie, E, and I ended up back in Denham where Jessica put us both up for the night. E and I exchanged phone numbers (and then some) the next morning. It seems pretty promising - we've called and emailed each other several times since, and I'm actually about to pack to visit him in Leesville overnight tonight.
It was a busy week at the office, working on alternate logon pages and server profile information for the CU's online banking system. I think it's going to look pretty sweet once we roll it out (hopefully that'll be before the end of the month). Yay for beautiful progress!
Mom and I renewed our old ritual of Saturday shopping today, hitting Michael's, the new mall, and Kohl's in search of pants for the both us. Jessie was working her second shift as a super secret stocker at Michael's where I picked up some more yarn on clearance after we surprised her on the sales floor. I bought only a necklace and some body mist at the mall, having to restrain myself from anything further since I got some tops and shoes at Target and Rack Room earlier in the week. Kohl's was pretty nifty (sort of a cross between Dillard's and Mervyn's), and though I didn't buy anything (again only due to restraint) Jessie and I will be making a trip after next payday to shop.
I let Mom do all the driving today so I could work on my first "official" (as in not a sample square) crochet piece, a lovely burgundy-purplish colored scarf I've been working on since my crochet class ended last month. I am happy to report I finished it up just before we returned home! I measured it, and it's a very happy 61" long! I think I'm going to gift it out at some point. I have some new yarn and some decisions to make as to what projects to start next.
