Zod never would have thought it would be possible for him to love again. When he failed to save his family, he thought his heart had lost the capacity to care for someone so deeply

She kisses him softly in return and when it ends, she takes a drink of her frappuccino. "So tell me more about this traveling you're planning," she says curiously. "Do you know any of the places you might be going?"
He takes a sip of his own forgotten frappuccino and considers for a moment before replying. "I'm still not completely sure. That's partially what Miss Sullivan is helping me figure out. There's also another woman I talked to a couple of weeks ago who might be willing to help. She's a diplomat, so bringing her along would certainly make sense. If she decides she would like to come, of course."
Zod tilts his head to one side curiously. "United Nations? That sounds familiar. I probably came across it during my research at some point, but it's not something anyone has really brought up. What is it?"
"Well, really it's this big group of people from different countries that have a lot of the same goals as you," she explains. "It started up after World War II with the goal of stopping wars. Obviously they have a ways to go and need some serious help, but it might be a good place to start." She smiles a bit.
"I was half hoping you'd say they were in Los Angeles," he says quietly, giving her a small smile. "So how accessible are these headquarters? I assume it will be rather difficult to be granted audience with this group of people from different countries?"
"I wish it were," she says softly, giving his hand a squeeze. "I'm not sure about the rest, honestly. But it'll probably be easier to meet with them here than it would be if the headquarters were in another country." Cordelia smiles a bit.
He nods thoughtfully, dropping his gaze to the table for a moment. "If they do let me in, I'm going to have to give them quite the speech," he points softly. "I hope they listen to what I have to say."
Zod wouldn't normally express such uncertainty about his mission, but he has no problem doing so in Cordelia's company.
She squeezes his hand once more. "I hope they do, too. But if anyone can make them listen, Zod, it's you." She gazes at him intently. "Especially because they already want the same things as you do. As we do."
He manages a small smile and squeezes her hand in return. "Thank you. I think the biggest challenge will be the whole being from another planet part. Tess told that they'll want to perform tests to discern for certain that I'm what I claim to be."
