Christmas 2004
I had a really full, really amazing Christmas weekend. AJ came over my family's on christmas eve and was accepted by the whole quirky bunch. She and I stayed up late on Christmas eve, long after everyone had gone to bed, talking about so many things...I did not want her to leave. Christmas morning I spent with my family. Throughout the day people approached me to tell me how sweet AJ is and how nice our relationship with one another is. My Godmother joked on Sunday when AJ and I stopped by that everyone had cast their votes and that they approved. It is nice to know that like her, they accept whoever I am with and trust me to make my own decisions, but it is nice to know that they all approve.
I went to AJ's family on Christmas night. I was so overwhelmed....AJ, her parent's, and her sister went way overboard with christmas presents. They are all so thoughtful. Her sister bought us matching pj sets that are way too cute. They also bought me a DVD player, which I could not believe. When I told them that that was way too much, they said something to the effect that "they are giving them away in cereal boxes these days, so really it was nothing." They also are giving me a T.V. that they do not use, so that we can set up The DVD player in my bedroom. I do not think that we need 4 T.V.s for three people that live in the apartment, but at least I know that I will be able to go watch something in my room if the boys are watching football. I was amused at the fact that AJ and I both bought each other a Shel Silverstien book. We had had a random conversation about them when we were at a house concert in D.C., it is funny that both thought of it. I had a lot of fun giving her her presents, it is fun to spoil her! I also really like dressing her up!
Every year AJ's family make ornaments for each other of their favorite memories and on christmas morning they hang them on the tree and tell the memory. Her mother's memory for her was all about me and actually made me get teary eyed. She had recorded her voice on the ornament and said that her mamory was of AJ meeting me, that she had not seen her that happy in years and for that she loves me. She also welcomed me to the family. I could not be happier with our family's reactions of each other. It is nice that they recognize what a special connection we have. Overall a very special and very memoralbe christmas.
