You know what's really funny, though? I wasn't even about my shipping preferences of Harry/Hermione either. I still remember when the epilogue came out and the fake Scholastics one, and how everyone was all like that Albus Severus one can't be real, Rowling doesn't write that shitty! The Scholastics/Flikr one HAS to be real! and we got totally duped.
I felt it was a cop-out; and not only that, everything that occurs in that final book, is like a spoof. It's a novel version of "Scary Movie", IMO.
Deathly Hallows? Hello, ever read Karen Marie Moning's 'Druid' series, where there are Seelie and Unseelie hallows -- which are mythological objects that wield considerable power? It's like... Rowling just read a bunch of books and decided to randomly pluck ideas from them and created this pastiche of fantasy in DH which didn't flow with the rest of the series.
Maybe my opinion will change once I actually read it, but... as far as I'm concerned, Rowling wrote a fanfic, and not the final book to what was, once, a great series.
Haha, I'm watching all the wank fly about DH and it's funny. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to sell it quick. ^__^
I haven't read a single word of HP and I'm damn proud of it. XD But I've been told that the epilogue is like, extra shitty. (Someone told me that JKR wrote the epilogue around the same time she wrote the first book. Is that true?)
It's ULTRA shitty. When it was leaked, EVERYONE said it was a fake but it turned out to be real. I think that says something.
And yeah, she wrote that when she wrote the first book, and never revised it, which is stupid. My dad told me the price already dropped for the book, barely a week after it came out. I think that says it very well what the general population thinks of the final. All others stayed at their original price for more than 6 days before dropping!
If you haven't visited fandom_wank's "catch-all" DH spoiler post, you might want to check out hp_cornfield (both accounts are on Journalfen).
Ohhhh man. I was giggling through a lot of that. The comment about the epilogue being like the Digimon 02 ending (which I despised) gave me a pretty good idea as to why people were throwing fits all over the 'net. :P
What happened in Digimon? I have a movie from that anime, and I used to watch it but I think I only saw the first season, or the second... I never saw the later stuff.
Speaking of anime, got any good ones to share? I'm getting back into it and I already downloaded my Gundam Wing, Escaflowne and Fushigi Yuugi :)
Really? Well, I think I'll still read it before I sell it -- thank goodness it's to a friend who probably won't mind a 'broken' spine -- and then make my final opinion.
And if I think it's worth completing the series, I'll rebuy it. But my other reason for selling it has nothing to do with the book, unfortunately. It's a bit pathetic, really -- I spent too much that day in Stratford where I bought DH and I need to sell it before my Visa statement comes in and I go in debt until my next paycheck. *blushes horribly*
oh, but don't read the epilogue if you read the book. Seriously, don't. The ending of the actual book in the only satisfying ending (well, as satisfied as any of us could be)
And ignore all the crappy shippy stuff. You know if you look on the bright side while reading it you might see that it's not as bad as it could have been. :-)
Oh, true -- I'll try but since I spoiled myself some of the things will tick me off (Ron leaving for Hogwarts, 'Purebloodedness' protecting him? Lily as a doe animagus? Severus/Lily? The Hallows? Harry's Jesus-like death?), but... I already read the crapilogue and IMO it's not worth it. Nineteen years is a long time, after all... :D
But yeah, my reason is fairly stupid, but oddly enough the girl I'm selling it to was with me when I bought -- and her response: "Tracey, it's full price! Wait!" which I ignored. LOL. Oops. :D
Compared to book six, this book was really good. I'm as H/Hr as they come, but I resigned myself to accepting the fact that it wasn't in JKR's Master Plan. But I decided I was alright with that. AU is the best way to go. And its more fun.
I play Hermione in an RP game and the game is actually R/Hr and I think that my awesome Ron player helped me to be alright with the R/Hr in the last book.
Like people said above. The book itself isn't that bad, just ignore the ship stuff and the crapilogue.
Then move onto better things. Like Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.
Oh, I agree. On one hand I feel totally pissed, but another has me just sighing, thinking it's an obsession that might be beyond due to get over, you know?
I honestly don't mind Ron/Hermione (moreso can't stand Harry/Ginny at any point in time) as long as it's well-written and Ron is mature. Then, it's okay.
Ok, that's it -- I've heard WAAAY too much about 'Twilight'. Mainly on one topic, and I think you can solve it for me, Kim. In your opinion: Gaspard Ulliel is Edward Cullens or not?
LOL, I think that's his name. How many books are in that series? I know it's a vampire one; I'd suggest Jasper Fforde's 'Thursday Next' series, personally. The Eyre Affair was brilliant! And it's an alternative universe, lol.
I know. I've got so many gripes with DH I don't know where to begin. I like HP, but not to the point of jumping anyone whose opinion differs from mine in the slightest. (Which is what many of the obsessive fans are doing. Seriously, what law dictates that just because you don't like something you shouldn't read it?)
HP is like this mindless read when you're bored. No lengthy plots and no flowery words. But what annoys me the most (about ANY story, mindless or not) is that where there's a plot, there's a plan. Planning should always precede plotting. Planning = plotting

I agree. I mean, book 6/7 (from what I've kinda read), are so... distanced from the other books in the series that it's like an entirely new HP series completely. I hate to say it, but I was expecting the final battle of Hogwarts to be this huge, Lord of the Rings-type epic... but when you get down to the nitty-gritty, maybe only about 200 people (I'm pushing it too) die in the ENTIRE series, including the first war in the 70s.
That's... kinda... well... who cares? Oh, poor wizarding England, they have civil war, says France/Germany/America/Timbuktu. We won't help them, let them figure it out, yar.
Anyway - personally the whole Elderwand (power of three, yo!!!) thing is stupid. Horcruxes = good original idea of nastiness, making Voldemort a great villain. Elderwand/invisibility cloak/amazing stone!!11!!!11 = yawn
And if Voldemort was so powerful, he travelled the world to study Dark Arts... why would he limit himself to placing his Horcruxes in England? That's so... predictable.
At this point, Deathly Hallows is just a huge plot

Any links to more wank? I love it.

Who is Gaspard Ulliel?

He's a French actor; played Hannibal in 'Hannibal Rising.' Utterly freaky dude, but apparently the Twilight fans think he's the perfect Edward.
