Kurt closed the door slowly behind him as he entered his dimly lit apartment. It was nearing midnight and he wasn’t sure if anyone would still be up at least he hoped they wouldn’t be.

“Hey” Santana called out from the living room. “Where’s Sherlock?”

“Sherlock?” Kurt asked confusedly. “You mean Adam?

“Yeah, yeah. Your English muffin.” She turned and faced Kurt, looking as if she had been crying.

“He’s home.” Kurt said as he flopped down on the sofa next to her. "What's going on? How come you're still up? Rachel and Brody here?"

“Good. I was thinking he might be moving in here too.” She pulled a blanket around her as she motioned towards Rachel's part of the loft with her head. "Yeah Rachel and the drug dealer are here. Went to bed a couple of hours ago. And I can't sleep." She gave him a slight smile. "So what’s the story with you and the muffin, Porcelain?”

“I really wish you’d stop calling me that. Bad enough when it was Sue.” He gave her a cross look.

“Well, after seeing you naked.” Santana began.

“What? What??” Kurt couldn’t even formulate sentences with that revelation.

“Calm down, I needed to use the bathroom and you were in there taking one of your epic showers so . . .” she shrugged nonchalantly. “You are rather smooth and white all over. I’m just saying. And I didn’t see your junk so don’t worry.” Kurt just shook his head and sat there in disbelief. “Anyway, you still didn’t tell me what’s up with you and Elton Jr.”

“Adam.” Kurt corrected again. “His name is Adam. And I don’t know what’s up with he and I. We‘re trying to figure that out.”

“Well wasn't it just a few weeks ago that you were macking all over Blaine at the wedding that wasn't? Or was that just a figment of my imagination. And if I remember correctly, I saw the both of you headed upstairs. I‘m sure it was all above board though, right?” Kurt gulped hard. “And you’ll never guess what Mercedes told me she caught you two doing in the back of his mom‘s Prius. A Prius, really?” She gave him a look of disbelief and admiration.

“Um, that was just friendly stuff.” Santana arched a knowing eyebrow at him. “We’re just friends, that’s all. You know like you and Quinn. Don‘t think I didn‘t notice that either. Or was that my imagination?”

“Uh huh.” Santana replied sarcastically, giving away nothing. “You guys really are close friends.” Her voice dripped with insincerity.

“Yeah, exactly.” Kurt hoped that was the end of it. “Just friends.”

“So how come you didn’t want me to say anything about him in front of Sher, I mean, Adam?”

“I didn’t tell him about hooking up with Blaine. I mean, we’re just sort of casually dating but I don’t really know how to explain Blaine and me. And I don’t know how understanding he would be of that tidbit of information.”

“He likes you Kurt. A lot.” Her tone suddenly serious.

“I know.” Kurt replied, his gaze settling on his shoes. “And I really like him. He’s been so sweet and attentive and trying to help me with this whole thing.” He sighed heavily. “I mean he took me to a sappy movie tonight, so we can have our own memories.”

“But you still love Blaine.” She reached over and gave his hand a squeeze. Kurt nodded slowly. Santana pursed her lips and considered this for a minute. “Kurt, if you love him and want to be with him, you need to tell him.”

“Santana, I can’t. I mean . . . “

“I get it Kurt, I totally do. He cheated, he hurt you. But Kurt, listen to me. I made a mistake with Brittney. I never should have let her go. And now she’s with someone else and I don’t know if we’ll ever get back together. I regret this everyday Kurt. EVERYDAY!” Kurt could hear the heartache in her voice.

He glanced at her, her eyes glazing with tears. “I know he hurt you, but I see the way he looks at you, the way you look at him.” Kurt cleared his throat and tried to gain some sense of composure. This was starting to hit a little too close to home.

“Santana, it’s not that easy. He destroyed my trust, broke my heart. I can’t just forget that.”

“I am not saying you should, but can’t you forgive him? It’s obvious to everyone how much you love each other.” Tears began rolling slowly down Kurt’s face.

“Yes I love him, I’ll always love him. He was my first love. He’s my best friend.” He wiped furiously at his face.

“I’m not defending what he did Kurt, I am sure he had his reasons, but at least he had the balls to tell you he did it. Most guys would have never mentioned it. That has to count for something? “ Kurt nodded.

“I’m just, I mean I get so pissed off sometimes trying to understand why he did it. I think that maybe I wasn’t enough, that I wasn’t good enough for him. And you remember last year, when he thought I had cheated on him, during Whitney week?” Santana laughed quietly.

“Oh you mean when Ms. Blaine got all black and sassy on your ass in the choir room?”

“And the thing is, I didn’t cheat on him. I mean, I flirted with this guy but I never would have done anything with him” Santana nodded. “So when Blaine said he had been with someone else, it took me totally off guard. I couldn’t believe he would do that to me, that he would hurt me like that.”

“Did he tell you why? Explain?”

“He tried, said that he felt me moving away and was scared and . . .”

“And so he jumped on the next available dick?”

“Jeeze Santana. Gotta be so crude?” She shrugged again. “And I get it, I do. I was busy working at Vogue and couldn’t talk to him as much as I promised and when we did talk it was generally all about me.” He shut his mouth abruptly.

“What?” Santana asked.

“It’s just like what happened back in high school. I got so caught up in my life, what I was doing, that I kinda forgot about him and his life, what he was doing.” He hit his head with the heel of his hand. “God, I’m so stupid.” Santana wrapped her arms around Kurt’s shoulders.

“It’s not your fault Kurt so don’t start blaming yourself. You didn’t cheat, he did.” Kurt sniffled back more tears.

“Yeah but I let him down. I made promises to him that I didn’t keep.”

“So what are you going to do?” She rubbed his shoulders. He shrugged.

“I don’t know. Part me thinks that it’s good that we broke up, we get to see new things, people. But he’s my best friend and I don’t know if I can live the rest of my life without him.”

“Well maybe you should call him, talk to him.”

“And tell him what exactly? That I’m not ready to get back together but I might be in the future.” He shook his head. “I don’t know if he’s going to go for that. I may have led him on a bit back in Ohio. I kept telling him that we weren’t back together but I think . . .”

“That all the sex might have confused him.” She added succinctly. “Understandably so.” He nodded guiltily.

“Yeah there’s that.” He sighed heavily.

“Hey you’re a horny guy I get it and that Blaine is one tasty little morsel.” Kurt stared at her incredulously.

"Where do you come up with this stuff?" Kurt hissed.

“Just because I’m a lesbian doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate his cute little preppy ass.” She gave Kurt a satisfied smile. "I'd tap that too, given the opportunity."

“So what do I do?” Kurt finally asked. He sank back against the couch and stared up at the ceiling.

“If it were me, I think you should just leave things alone for the time being. But do not, and I can not stress this enough Porcelain.” Kurt shot her another irritated look. She ignored it. “Do not get any more involved with Sherlock. I mean it Kurt. It’s not fair to him and it’s not fair to Blaine. You guys haven't done the nasty already have you?" Kurt sat there quietly, his eyes still fixed above him, not quite believing this whole conversation.

"No god no. Not that it's any of your business by the way." He indignantly replied. They sat there in the silence for a short time

“You going to be up for a while?” She asked quietly. He nodded slowly. “Mind if I crash in your bed? The couch is killing me.”

“Go ahead. But try not to hog the whole bed this time.” She got up and gave him a hug.

“It’s all going to work out Kurt.” She ruffled his hair as she walked away. At that moment, Kurt wasn’t entirely sure it would. Time would tell he reckoned, come what may.
