Did I miss two weekends-worth of posts? I guess I did.
Two weeks ago Saturday I went to Flesh Wound, fought for awhile, and did pretty well (I thought). I made it through a few rounds of the 'Bring Your Best' tournament before getting eliminated by the King, which isn't a bad way to go. Around 1 I packed up and drove to Chicago, for Theater of Women 8, a 24-hour festival. (6 playwrights meet on Friday night and are given their pick of actresses, then write short plays for them. At 8 AM the actresses arrive and start learning their lines. Tech starts at 4, and each play receives half an hour on the stage to work with the tech crew. Show opens at 8 PM and runs again at 10 PM.) I worked with Jeremy and Anna to set up the tech - each director came in and told us what cues they wanted where, and we wrote them into the script. At 8 we ran the show for the first time, with me calling the cues, Anna on the light board, and Jeremy working sound and the projector. The show was really good - alternately funny, moving, and thought-provoking. The tech went off with very few hitches (nothing that the audience would have noticed), and at 10 we ran it again. And after the show I went home. Sunday was mostly chores and running around stuff, generally relaxing in routine.
During the week we had our first practice in a potential fighter's practice space - the Airsoft Arena below the Mitchell Mall. Seven of us were there - me, Magnus, Jean, Murdoch, Amadan, Randall, and Hamish. And we had a good practice. Other days I
On Saturday the 1st I got up early to shovel snow, then went to a second walkthrough of the potential space at the Marian Center. (We're considering it for the new home of Caer Anterth - it would give us storage and meeting space for a relatively reasonable rate.) Some of us continued to the St Francis Brewery to discuss what we saw there. Then I drove to Chicago again for the
Dream Theatre Gala, at which the company announced its season: Rio, The Unchosen, I Am Sorry For Her Pain, Audience Annihilated 3, Alligator, and Christmas Carol, and Anna, in the Darkness running once a month. I also discussed lighting Rio with the director. And after the festivities I went home. And on Sunday we watched the Puppy Bowl and generally slothed about.
Last night Laura played DDO with some other people while Ben and I watched Sherlock: The Empty Hearse. Tonight is fighter's practice in Chicago (unless I am dissuaded by weather), where I'll drop off some armor pieces. Tomorrow night is fighter's practice in Madison, where I'll pick up some armor pieces. Thursday night is fighter's practice in Milwaukee, where I'll get soundly trounced. Friday we have nothing planned, and over the weekend I believe I'll be helping build the set and do the lights for the play.
So, right. Food. End of line.
