Weighing option$

This week, I've been putting a ton of thought into whether I want to go to school and study accounting.  Kind of late for me to do that, right?  After I've already put all that work into applying?

Well, better to rethink it now than later.  Better to research it now, before I've spent tens of thousands more.

I talked last week with a guy who's been there... kind of.  He's 60, so he's from a different generation.  That means a lot when it comes to the economy.  But he knows his stuff; he works for U of I, and has an MBA from Harvard and a M.S. in accounting from DePaul.

He asked tough questions.  Questions such as, "Do you want to go into accounting, or do you have to?"  Being honest, I said it seemed more like the latter sometimes.  I told him about how the field journalism looks, and how I'd like to work normal hours and live in a larger (non-redneck) area.

After talking with me a while, he said he doesn't see me as an accountant.  He said he sees me as more of a finance guy.  Apparently, accountants compile the numbers, and financiers use the numbers to strategize and make plans.

Well then.  He raises an interesting perspective.  If he's right, do I commit to going through with my plan?  Do I go to UW-Madison but consider transferring or dropping out?  Do I scrap the grad school plan entirely for now?

I don't know.  I'm too damn young to make these decisions, and too damn broke to experiment!
