We're back from vacation, and we had a great time!
To let people know, we went up to Deep Creek Lake, near Accident, MD (I <3 that town name). We rented a house for 3 days and stayed there with a bunch of friends.
This is a promotional picture of the lake:
Here's some pics of the house, from the website:
We got there at about 5 on Friday. We had something to eat, and then we went swimming. The lake was pretty warm; last year, it was too cold to swim, so this year we went late in the season so that we wouldn't be frozen out again. The house had a slip dock, and that was pretty neat. We'll have to see if we can play with canoes next year. After a little bit, Kemp and I were brave enough to do skinny dipping *grin*. (There were too many people around to do too much more.)
We also brought the Wii with us and introduced some of our friends to bowling.
Saturday had more swimming and movies later. We lingered on the porch/deck for a while, and we saw a hummingbird! It was pretty shy though, so we didn't get a picture. There are bears in the area as well, but we didn't see them either, and the lake Natural Resources board wants to discourage them from being near the homes in the area.
On Sunday, we played a couple of games of ping pong on the table in the basement. That was pretty fun too...I'm not very good at the game, and I don't think that I'll be able to get much in the way of practice in, but I liked it. And Christy brought Clue (the board game), so we played a couple of matches at that. And then we had dinner (hot dogs on the grill), and went down to the dock area, where there's a small fire pit. We set up a small campfire and made S'mores, and Kurt read us a few chapters from a book called Crooked Little Vein (which we will sooo read later; it was pretty witty).
Monday was checkout at 10 am. We ate breakfast at Perkins and headed home. They closed the Perkins where we used to go, and we kinda miss it. They do breakfasts all day, and it's a surprising amount of food for not much money. Sort of the ultimate college kid special...and yes, we did have the restaurant near our college, and it was a hangout spot.
In summary, I had a great time, and I know that Kemp did too. We were really in need of a good vacation...and next year maybe we'll have even more people to share it with; who knows? In any event, great time :).
