Fandom Snowflake Days 2-5

Jan 09, 2013 00:52

Just got back from my conference late last night and I'm playing catch up on the Fandom Snowflake Challenge! Luckily the Snowflake people are as chill as their name suggests and aren't too particular about late entries. So, allons-y!

Fic Recs

Story: Blue Caravan
Author: Aptasi
Fandom: Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?

aptasi is my friend, online and off, and my partner in crime in the teeny, tiny Carmen Sandiego fandom. She's written a ton of Carmenfic, both short and long. It was her work that made me want to start writing again after a long hiatus. I think Blue Caravan might be my personal fave. It's set right before the beginning of the series and delves into why Carmen forms such a special bond with Zack and Ivy. Would be accessible to fans of the game canon that haven't seen the animated series.

Story: Forsaking Freedom
Author: tristesses
Fandom: Kushiel's Legacy

What impresses me most about this story is tha tristesses took a one sentence throwaway line about Iriel de Fiscarde, the last anguisette prior to Phedre, and wrote a really moving, beautiful original story. I'm a big believer that in the right hands, OCs can be wonderful, and she really proves this here. It feels like a missing chapter from a yet unwritten Jacqueline Carey story. Her other fic is wonderful, too!

Story: Let's Forget We're Running (Out of Time)
Author: zoicite
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005)
Pairing: Ten/Donna, Donna/Lee

Donna was always my fave companion and I always shipped her with Ten even though canon told me not to. (whatever canon, I do what i want!) This was the end I always wanted for them. A story that's a little romantic and a little heartbreaking. The Doctor in his loneliness, the fact that he needed Donna as much if not more than she ever needed him, is very well rendered here. It might be my fave Ten/Donna story

Day #3- Friend some new people. one and done! Hi new people! Between this and yuletide, I'm still reaching out to try and friend new folks. I always welcome new followers, especially if you drop me a note just to say where you're here from.

3 Wishes

1) In the Kushielverse, I'd love to see more world-building type stories with original characters. Unfortunately, for Yuletide, we can't really request worldbuilding, so I never do. I'd just love to read more about the various houses of the Night Court, the priesthoods of Elua and the Companions, past and future anguisettes, D'Angeline history. Whatevers, I'll read it- especially if it's smutty with a dash of intrigue!

2) To echo someone else on my flist- feedback! I love comments and questions about my stories. If you want the director's cut extended version of a fic I wrote, the annotated footnotes, just ask me! I'm kind of shy too about leaving comments, especially if I don't know the author. But i swear I don't bite...unless you ask very nicely. I'd also love to have more subscribers and friends. So if you lurk here, feel free to add me.

3) Fanart, icons, remixes, etc of my own work. My pal Mirei recently drew a manga based on one of my fics and I loooved it. it was wonderful to see a scene I had written brought to life like that. If you feel so inspired, I'd love to see fanart of a scene from one of my fics. Or a remix if you are a remixer. Just drop me a line when you're finished so I can check it out.

Something New

So I missed a bunch of days for this challenge because I was in New Orleans!!!! That can be my something new. I tried TONS of new things- crawfish etouffe, gumbo, a sazerac. I was not brave enough to try alligator, but I think I'm ok with that. The French Quarter was amazing. Seriously like a trip back in time to 1840. I wish we'd had more time, because I would have loved to visit the Garden District and see some of the cemeteries. I did go to Bourbon Street on Saturday Night....it looked like a scene from Dante's Inferno. Seriously, that place is the Disneyland of Pornography. I am no prude, but wow. Also I interviewed for academic jobs...which probably led to me stumbling down Bourbon Street, G&T in hand, trying to kill the pain
