Hitting the Road

Aug 08, 2011 06:28

My youngest son didn't want to come to the Farm. He was here last year, and he complained that it was boring because there is nothing to do. We've been here over a week now, and last night when I reminded him that we would be leaving this morning, he protested, "We can't leave tomorrow!"

"When do you want to leave?"

"Not tomorrow!"

I reminded him that he didn't want to come here in the first place because it was boring. He simply re-wrote history and asserted that he wanted to spend the entirety of our time together here on the Farm. Ah, to be 7.

Tonight, we bed down at a friend's place in Asheville, NC. Tomorrow night we'll stay in a motel in the vicinity of Richmond, VA, if we make it that far. Wednesday, we should arrive at the Elk River House in Chesapeake City, MD. They don't go back to their mother until Friday, so we've got some slack in our schedule should seven-hour days with the three of us crammed into the cab of my little truck prove unworkable.

While they were here, the boys got to spend time with Mocha, the three-legged black cat. Logan, in particular, lavished affection on her. Thank you to everyone who helped make that possible.

Wish us safe travels.

family, travel
