Tai Chi is not nice

On Saturday, Peter, my Taiji Chuan teacher explained that Taiji Chuan is not like Aikido. Aikido teaches you to neutralize an opponent's attack without harming him. It's nice that way. Taiji Chuan is not nice in that way.

A lot of Taiji players are nice people, and so it's easy for observers to conclude that Taiji is a nice martial art. It ain't.

Taiji is an MA I have considered trying, but, even if I had the free time, I despair of finding a teacher who'd teach it as a MA instead of as interpretive dance.

I've been lucky. I've had three Taiji Chuan teachers since 1995, and all three of them have at least paid attention to the martial aspect.

Right, I know it can be done as MA, my point was that I wonder how often it is taught that way.
