This is great stuff. After working in a US corporation and seeing the people around me I realized I was in prison. Moving to Canada I've seen that the society is slightly less materialistic, less obsessed with growth but still has many of the problems that Western societies do. For a great history of how America became so psychologically warped watch Century of the Self, a BBC documentary on PR, advertising and US gov't influence on the minds of its citizens. Check out the montage on Diet Soap #23. It uses clips from Century Of The Self. It's message is contrasted with Obama's yes we can speech. Moving Piece.

I agree with Bageant that individuals must make the change. "Yes we can!"
