Dad and I were at Farm Fresh trying to get HRT passes for school and, although they were out of the MAX 5-packs we needed, they had a 5% off military discount day, so we poked about. Found some sirloin steaks, and had that for dinner. It was MUCHO yummy. As it is, Dad laid claim on the leftover steaks (curses!), so when he left to drop my brother off at scouts and do his workout tonight, I took the opportunity to make his lunches for him as bentos.
I wrapped the sirloins in seran wrap to retain their juice, so they'll still be nice and juicy when he heats them back up. I put them on a bed of lettuce, and placed a slice of bread, in four slices, around the sides of a deep tupperware container -- more than 1200 mL, but he's a grown man, so I'm assuming he has a great appetite. Might still be a bit much, but that might impress him, lol. Leftover corn was put in side dishes (with cap) and put in, and then I sliced up an apple (dipped in water with lime juice) and used that for a filler.
Ruleswise: Again, the apples, I let slide for red; corn for yellow, and lettuce for green, to make up fruits and vegetables. White bread, and dark sirloin steaks.
Result: Dad apparently liked it, although he complained that there was only half of a steak in there, lol. I suppose that's code for "the steak came out really good and I was sad when it was all gone :( ", so, success there.
I actually made two bentos, and together they took me thirty minutes, roughly. I'm curious as to how well they turned out, as the seran wrap is something I haven't tried yet.
