Summaries on some movies I've seen lately (in no particular order):
King Kong
I really enjoyed this movie. While it was no Lord of the Rings , I still thought Peter Jackson did a great job. The movie was filled with beautiful scenes- both on Skull Island and in old-school New York. And I thought the movie was well cast. Naomi Watts was a knock-out, and I absolutely love both Adrien Brody & Jack Black. Oh yeah, and Evan Parke was badass too. I actually haven't seen the original movie, so unfortunately I can't make a comparison between 1933 and 2005. But I loved the story, and I loved the way they captured the love btwn Ann Darrow & Kong. And there was an especially magical scene in Central Park.
Madagascar
One of the best animated movies I've seen in a while - filled with an all-star cast and witty remarks. I'm almost looking forward to the sequel.
Crash
A crazy fucked up movie, but great. The movie deals a lot with racism, which I always find intriguing. I never really had to deal with blatant racism growing up...or maybe I was just oblivious. When I went to college I remember being shocked by people's racism (there were a lot of southern people from small towns at my undergrad). And the people's racism in Crash shocked me a bit b/c it was so in-your-face. It also references the corruption of the LAPD. I highly recommend this movie to everyone. In case you don't know, it's about all of these different people whose lives end up "crashing" into each other. It also has a fab cast - Matt Dillon (who plays a prick, and does it quite well), Sandra Bullock, Brendan Fraser, Don Cheadle, Thandie Newton, Jennifer Esposito, Ludacris (shout-out to the A-town), Ryan Phillipe...
Simply Irresistible
This movie might tie with Ned Kelly for the prize of worst movie ever. I unfortunately found myself watching this after I broke my foot & it was the only thing on. Next time I'll just pick up a book instead. Sarah Michelle Gellar & Sean Patrick Flanery star in this movie that is suppose to be a cute romantic comedy, but in my opinion lacks a real plot. I wish I would have fallen asleep instead!
The Outsiders
When I was little I remember absolutely loving this book (and everything else by S.E. Hinton). I hadn't seen the movie in eternity, but received it as a Christmas present this year. I got home from TX at 1am Christmas night (after my flight was delayed 2 1/2 hrs) and I had to watch it. And it was as magical as when I was young. Something about the story of the greasers having to put up with crap from the socs touches my heart. Don't ask me why. And I remember always loving it b/c they reference both Robert Frost and Gone With the Wind (a side note to Mike & Stephen: typing Robert Frost makes me think of that kid singing the "Robert Frost my middle school" song that Andrew played once at his house). And it's full of young hotties: Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez, C. Thomas Howell, Ralph Macchio, & Diane Lane.
Okay, that's all for now (until I waste more time by watching movies this week).
