Nominations for 2008 Ursa Major Awards

Jan 28, 2009 00:16

Aloha, furry readers! Further Confusion has come and gone, and as with many cons, we've been hit with some great new literary pieces for us to treasure and cherish. This most recent piece is kyellgold's Out of Position, a fantastic gay furry romance novel that I'll hopefully be able to review very soon.

Now that it's January, though, it's time to look back at the year we've just come out of, and think about some of the great pieces of writing we've seen and consider our nominations for the Ursa Major Awards.

For anyone out there who might want to nominate something of mine, here's what I'm actually eligible for. All of these are for the "Short Fiction" category.

  • "Stray" (Yiffstar, March 2008)
  • "Starting from Scratch" (Yiffstar, March 2008)
  • "Pop Music is Not a Crime" (Yiffstar, May 2008)
  • "Candy and Music" (published in Heat #5, Sofawolf Press, June 2008)
  • "Interim" (Yiffstar, August 2008)
  • "Touch of Silver" (Yiffstar, November 2008)
  • "Threshold of Passion" (Yiffstar, November 2008)
  • "Nicky's Naughty List" (Yiffstar, December 2008)

If you need reference for any of the above, you can go back through my journal entries, or look here (and wow, I wrote way more stories this year than I did last year, and this is only the stuff that's been made public!).

Also, while it's not technically my work, you might also consider oCeLoT's fantastic cover for "Heat #5" that accompanied my piece "Candy and Music" for the "Best Published Illustration" category.

Personally, insofar as nominating anything of mine goes, I think that "Stray" is probably my best work, though I'm certainly fond of "Candy and Music," too, for different reasons. By all means, if you feel like something of mine is worth nominating, I encourage you to do so, but since you can only nominate five stories total in the Short Fiction category, if you do only get to pick one of mine, I'd be inclined to pick one of those two.

Here are some other things that I actually went and nominated, myself, which I think definitely deserve that honor, and which I'd recommend you all read anyway, regardless of any of this Ursa Major stuff.

Best Novel
Waterways by Kyell Gold (Sofawolf Press, January 2008)
Thousand Leaves by Kevin Frane (Sofawolf Press, June 2008)

Best Other Work
"Dog's Days of Summer" by Blotch (Sofawolf Press, June 2008)

Best Fanzine
New Fables, Summer 2008 by Sofawolf Press
Heat #5 by Sofawolf Press (June 2008)

Really, though, there were so many great things published in and by the furry fandom in 2008 that it's hard to name all the things deserving recognition (especially in the Short Fiction category; there are a LOT of great candidates for pieces, there, and I can only hope I get at least one of my stories to make the cut for even the final vote).

Regardless of your inclinations, you can go ahead and nominate here! You have until the end of February. Then, in mid-March, the REAL voting begins!
