Busy day

A lot of stuff went on today.

Math: was chaotic.  Mrs. Yoder sent two of her students over to Mrs. Clemens classroom because both classes were reviewing.  Then she brought Mr. Walsch.  It was CRAZY.  (Just a little snippet about Mr. Walsch for those who don't know him.  He is a really funny guy, but in a weird way.)  He decided to do a word problem on the board that people were having trouble with.  He asked what a permutations were, and then asked what on earth they would be useful for.  Eventually he had Dennis come up and do the problem on the board, and then didn't buy the answer.  He called it "voodoo math."  I forget what he teaches, but I can't wait to have him.  (One of the two word problems he did involved electing officers for the math club.  After the word problem, he wrote: (nerd people.  Woohoo, we solved x and y!) Ah, Mr. Walsch.)
Spanish: Well, we didn't have Spanish because we were in the auditorium the entire period.  A TN alumnus had come in to talk about West Point, where she's a senior.  There were some really stupid questions asked, but she responded well.  She was talking at one point about how you got to throw a live hand grenade and ride in a Black Hawk helicopter, and Autum leaned over.  "This is why some people join the army; they make it sound like an action video game."  (Autum, I know that's not exactly right.  Please correct me.)
Band: We sight-read music: first a piece called Habitats.  It was cool; there were different parts, like atmospheres, and "mountain vistas," and rain forest, and metropolis.  Then we sight-read Looney Tunes.  It was silly.
Science: We worked on those magnetism experiments.  (ACK.)
English: We revisited the auditorium, this time to hear Caitlyn's powerpoint on her cruise.  It was really good, and she did a good job.  And I learned that in 22 years there will be a complete solar eclipse that passes right through Bloomington!  I can't tell you why I think this is so cool, but... I do.  The rest of the period was spent reading an article about the overworked kids in Asian countries.  I feel so stupid and lazy.
Social Studies: We had a race driven by promise of extra credit to do a math problem on the increase of the world/U.S. population since the beginning of the year.  Scary stuff.  Then he handed out a "story" that had a lot of legal things in it.   We had to circle everything having to do with law.  It's so nitpicky!

I went home, had ice cream, worked on my puzzle, and took a nap.  Then I did my chapter 11 review and studied for my oral test.  At one point I went downstairs to talk to Mom, and was sucked in to the Spelling Bee finals.  A girl from New Jersey named Katharine (and called Carrie) won.  She was cool.   She won with the word "ursprache."  Wow.  Just, wow.

runthrough, wow
