It's in Our Hands

What a great way to top off a not-so-great day! My afternoon wasn't looking too good when I learned that I had missed getting in my rent check for the house on time (no worries, we get one late month, and one of the other checks hasn't arrived in the mail yet), that we may have to put my kitty cat to sleep within a week, and that I possibly lost a Gamecube game and my memory card to the postal service. Seriously, not a stellar outlook. By far, my worst 'womanly' symptom is that I get irritated very easily; today was one of those days. Which is why, when 6:30 rolled around, I was NOT looking forward to a brainstorming meeting on the terrace.

But God had other plans.

Not only did I have a great time coming up with crazy things to do around campus (I'm in charge of organizing a digital photo-scavenger hunt for St. Paul's!), I completely forgot about all the things that were weighing me down that evening! We started with three of us whom I had e-mailed. Then we spotted three other summer bible studiers, who joined us and the ideas just got better and better! It was one of the best times I've had just hanging out with a group of people. We started at 7:30ish, and I didn't leave until 10:20. The last hour we actually ventured away from scavenger hunt stuff, and discussed the things about the church community that need to change and how we can do that. It was amazing - I saw the Church up close. To many, it may appear that the pope, bishops, and priests make up the Catholic Church. Not even close. Young people who CARE about the future of the collective community and helping others find peace in God is where the Church is at. WE decide our future, decide how we will shape this great responsibility that is our inheritance. And, in the hands of the young people with whom I just sat, that is a promising thought.
