As most of you all know, I've been sixteen for about eight months. However, I finally got my permit today for several reasons. The first was that I was sick when I turned sixteen and then when I was better I had so much extra work to do that my parents wanted me to wait until all my work was done till I got the permit, but here it is mid-August and I'm still not done, and won't be untill probably October. Grr about that but I'm not going to get into that yet.
But back to the permit...20 minutes after I woke up, my mother beeped me and asked if I wanted to stop by the DMV to get my permit. I know I had told her every day that I needed to get my permit before school started, but I never actually thought she would bring me volunterily and all. Maybe it had something to do with she had to go to the DMV herself to return old license plates but we'll ignore that little tidbit.
But anyways, I got the the DMV and waited on line and all that and took it. It was soo easy (but maybe that was because I took the practice ones online like ten times but again, we will ignore that) and passed! (obviously) so yay I'm happy now. And now that I'm not taking driver's ed I can get my license in 6 months; that's February 10th. Jeez that's forever but oh well.
I'm really never going to use my driver's license in my adult life. I'm going to college in either NYC or Washington DC and then I'll be living in either of them until I get into the Foreign Service, so that will mean I'll be in foreign country for a while, but then I'll have to get an international license, so I'll need to take another test anyway. So basically this driver's license will only be used until June 2007, because evern when I travel back home for breaks, I'd use the train. Besides, even if I would have a reason to own a car and use it I wouldn't want to. It's bad for the enviornment and it's healthier to walk. That's the reason French women don't get fat. They drink like a fish and eat crap but they walk everywhere. They walk to the grocery store, to church, to work, to everywhere. The constant low-intensity excersise is what keeps your cholesterol down, your heart healthy, and your weight down. So yea, after that rant about excersise I'll leave you with one thought, even if you lived in an area that didn't require a car, would you still own one? The answer is most likely yes. Not to offend the American way of life or anything. Well actually I think I am. Oh well. Take it as you will.
