The last two days have been the most fun days of work I have had since I started in December. The operators from the three plants whose simulators I updated are here. Working the long hours was really sucking, but now that these guys are here it's great. They are so much more fun to be around than the actual employees at my office. Up until yesterday, I had gone out to lunch with someone from the office once ever, and these guys have taken me out and paid (on Progress Energy's dime, of course) for my lunch. They aren't even really my coworkers, they are just representatives of the customer.
They are neither city boys, nor foreign, which are the two main problems I have with my coworkers. They just sit around and tell stories about drinking and getting arrested. This is so my crowd.
Awesome: the guy who runs Progress Energy's simulation division has already requested to my boss that I be kept on projects with their plants after this is over. It's not that I particularly care, but my initial review (i.e. first raise) is coming up sometime between now and December. They will decide then just how much my current salary will be getting bumped up, and few things will help with that more than a customer that's happy enough with my work to request that I stay on his projects.
It's a shame their last day here is tomorrow. Then it will go back to being boring.
