Summary: Jane tries to think of the perfect way to ask Maura to marry her.
Jane Rizzoli wanted to marry Maura Isles, but she wasn’t sure how to ask her girlfriend. She couldn’t picture getting down on one knee and proposing. That just wasn’t her. She didn’t even want a big wedding. She hoped Maura wouldn’t mind getting married at city hall.
“I’m so glad you’re going to ask Maura to marry you! She’s so good for you,” raved Angela Rizzoli. She was thrilled that her daughter had found someone and she hadn’t even had to fix her up!
“Ma, focus! I’m not sure how I should propose to Maura.” Jane resisted the urge to roll her eyes at her mother.
“It should be romantic. That’s all I have, Jane. I hope you two have babies!” she squealed. Angela went over and hugged Jane.
“Ma, we’re not talking about kids yet. I’m not even sure if I want any.” Jane couldn’t see herself as a mom. Maura had told her a few times she was fine with not being a mother.
Jane went home and started thinking of how she should propose. She was so deep in thought that she didn’t notice Maura entering their apartment. “I missed you today,” Maura murmured. She sat down on the couch next to Jane and kissed her.
Jane kissed back. “I missed you, too. Good day at work?” She smiled at her girlfriend.
Maura shook her head. “I had to autopsy a little kid today. I hate that. It was so horrible. That poor innocent little girl…,” she trailed off.
“Aww, I’m sorry, Maura. I know you hate autopsying little kids.” Jane kissed Maura again and turned on the TV.
“I know you are. Love you, Jane.” Maura would never get tired of telling Jane that. She was just so happy to finally be with her, after denying feelings for her best friends for years.
“Love you, too. Come on, let’s go to bed. You’ve had a long day.” Jane would help Maura get over the day’s events.
Maura smiled. “Let’s go.” She grabbed Jane’s hand and the two rushed into their bedroom. Jane managed to make Maura forget about her bad day at work.
The next day, Jane decided to ask Korsak for advice. “Why are you asking me? You better come up with a good proposal for that girl,” he warned.
Jane laughed. “I will.” She was determined to make sure Maura said yes to her proposal. She really wanted Maura to be her wife.
She spent the next week trying to think of a great way to propose to her girlfriend. Should Jane do it on their anniversary? Plan a romantic dinner? She didn’t know and that was bothering her! She wasn’t romantic. Maura knew that, too. Jane didn’t want her to say no. She wouldn’t be able to handle that rejection. She’d get over it, but the hurt would probably linger for awhile.
“What do you want for dinner? I’m in the mood for pizza,” Maura said one day, two weeks after Jane decided she wanted to marry her girlfriend.
And that’s when Jane went for it. “Marry me, Maura.” She cringed and waited for her girlfriend’s answer.
Maura blinked at her in shock. “Yes! I wish you had gotten down on one knee, though, but that’s not you. It would have been romantic if you had done that. But I don’t care. We’re getting married! And your mother doesn’t need to be involved in wedding plans. That’s not going to end well.”
Jane let out an uncharacteristic squeal and launched herself at her girlfriend. She kissed her. “Thank you so much for saying yes,” she murmured.
“No problem. I can’t wait to be Doctor Maura Isles-Rizzoli. Or maybe you can be Jane Rizzoli-Isles. We can talk about that later.” Maura’s mind was racing.
“I don’t have a ring yet, but we can go tomorrow. Let’s go celebrate!” Jane grabbed Maura’s hand and they rushed to their bedroom.
Jane didn’t look forward to planning the wedding, but she couldn’t wait to marry Maura. Maura couldn’t wait to start planning the wedding and marry Jane.
It was going to be an interesting few months for Maura Isles and Jane Rizzoli.
And they ended up as Maura Isles-Rizzoli and Jane Rizzoli-Isles.
