I have been working with Idwin, one of our English Language Learners (ELLs), at school to help him with his English. I recently bought him a skateboarding magazine because I know that skateboarding is one of his passions. He is very hesitant to speak with me in English (although he has no problems talking to me in Spanish) so I thought that the magazine would be a good way to facilitate discussion.
When I showed him the magazine and told him that it was for him he looked at me kind of surprised. He said, "No, Miss, it's for us." Then in Spanish he said, "Me siento muy agradecido. No sé cómo decir eso en inglés." Translation: "I feel very thankful. I don't know how to say that in English."
