50 Book Challenge:

9.5 A Clockwork Orange- Dystopic England sometime after WWII, written almost exclusively in a made up slang. The language is difficult to get used to at first, but once the general vocabulary has been established it's a lot easier to read. Ultimately worth the effort.

10. Azumanga Daoih Omnibus- Manga, but I'm counting it as a half because it's a mammoth 500+ pages. Fun high school drama/comedy about a group of 6 friends and their three years together in high school.

11. Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit- Mostly autobiographical novel about a homosexual girl raised in an Evangelical household. Humorous critique of Evangelical Christians.

12. Bridge to Terebithia- Beautiful, terribly sad. A worthwhile read at any age, this is based off a real event in the author's son's life. The movie is a great adaptation, probably because Paterson's son wrote the screenplay, but I'd still say read the book first.

13. Tuck Everlasting- Another great children's book that I read once before when I was younger. The Tuck family is immortal, and stays in hiding to protect their terrible secret at all costs. 10 year old Winnie meets them, and everything is turned upside down.

14. Climbing Chamundi Hill- Traditional Hindu stories compiled into a novel (ish) and linked by a frame story. A tad preachy at times, but interesting nonetheless.

Nanowriye:

I'm now keeping two running totals for my wordcount. The first includes only the fictional work that I do, and it sits at 907/50,000. The second includes my school papers as well, as they are technically allowed under the Nanowriye rules. This count stands at 3152/50,000. I'm several thousand words behind by either count, but it's still early in the year. Besides, I'm making myself write at least 100 words before I go to bed. It's not even my daily quota, but it's something.
