I’ve been doing a study on my own; on how dreams are affected by the music we listen during our sleep. I conducted the study in my own bed using Matt’s lap top computer playing the same play list for days straight. Then change the play list up a little. I know I don’t sleep much, but during the sleep that I got I found some very interesting but obvious things. I gained interest from this when I read an article on dreaming one night. So I made a play list dedicated to nice soothing music. Mostly classical music and such. I found out that when it played that this soothing music made me dream very mellow dreams or not even remember what you dreamt. Dreams where nothing cool would happen, such as me flying etc. Now when I changed the play list to upbeat music I noticed something pretty sweet. My dreams became more upbeat, things such unexplainable, weird, awkward and even sexual dreams would occur much more often. The weird dreams we always remember. So now concluding, I decided to mix the two play lists and put it to shuffle for a couple of days. What I found was pretty cool. In my dreams, nightmares would occur much more frequently. Basically I had nightmares for four days straight. So there is part one of the investigation.
Part two involves my lucid dreaming capabilities. I found these glasses online that you put on during your sleep. They flash red light that you can somewhat see as you sleep. Basically as you sleep and dream you seem to see a glowing red light that flashes. This reminds you in your dream that you are indeed dreaming. Thus you can use your dream now to do anything you want. Basically you are reminded by the glasses by the sight of red flashing light you are dreaming. Whatever, hard to explain. So I thought id try it with music. So I picked the songs that I constantly play a million times. I thought that my brain would process these songs as I’m sleeping and I would recognize them because I play them so many times. Then I would know im dreaming etc. To me each song I picked, I always tend to love one part of the song. The one part, that I always think about. Example: The begging of White room, The begging of That’s the way, When the electric rhythm guitar is added halfway through stairway to heaven, the kazoo in cross-town traffic, the first 10 seconds of ring of fire, the part where Freddie Mercury hits that special tone with his voice at 1:44 on the show must go on, etc. As I was sleeping I tended to hear these things and I would remind my self that I was dreaming. But it did not occur often at all. When it did it I was marveled by it. Today I had a strange idea. What if I only play the parts of the song that I love. Make a play list of the songs and cut it down to the 10 second parts that I like the most, then play it while I sleep. Then when I do dream its nothing but reminders of the good parts that I like. Thus ill know I’m dreaming. But previously I would have been reminded every once in a while. But now every second.
I’m pretty tired ill finish this some other time. Let me know what you think. Sorry about the long run on sentences spelling mistakes and grammar crap. I’m way toooooo tried. I’m gonna go sleep.
