spreading the gospel of kat

i went to see kat goldman last night at mitzi's sister - an unbelievably cold night, but i had been waiting to see her live for a bit.

about 3-4 weeks ago (i have no concept of time and space anymore, so who knows) i was in the td bank vestibule on college. a woman rushed in and tried the bank doors, only to find them locked. i turned around and looked at her, inspired to do so by her curses, and she asked me if she could deposit a cheque in an ATM. hey, we're all taking baby steps throughout this stupid life...

i walked her through the process, and she was terribly grateful. she said "i want to give you something - i would give you my fries..." i "no, no"d, just happy to be the good little lesbian helper that i am. she started rifling through a large handbag, and i started to get a little concerned that i was going to wind up with a lint-covered tube of chapstick or something. she said "i'm a singer-songwriter, and i want to give you one of my records..."

she couldn't find one, but gave me a postcard that had advertised her album release, and directed me to the website. she said that there were some songs on it, and if i liked them...dot dot dot. i thanked her, since i love singer-songwriters (being a failed one myself) and we introduced ourselves and went on our merry ways.

so i saw her last night, re-introduced myself, and bought her latest cd off of her. i told her that i had bought her first album off of maple music and she said "you did?! god BLESS you!"

i felt like such a groupie. a terrible fangirl. but how to tell someone that you love their art without sounding like one? especially since, in another lifetime, it had been me unplugging guitars and winding up patch cords after motoring through a show full of talkers in the audience...

ps: read her bio. seriously.
