Walking into his apartment Tony threw his keys onto his kitchen counter kicking his door closed with his foot and absentmindedly reached back to lock the door before moving away. Sitting on the couch Tony took out his new gun and leaning forward placed it on the coffee table. In his back pocket rested the badge Gibbs had given him. It felt as if it was burning a hole through his jeans and scorching his skin, but he was afraid to reach back and take it out. That would make its presence real, which would mean the last several days hadn’t been just some horrible nightmare and Tony had not made it to a place where he could handle it being real.

As of their own free will Tony’s eyes moved around the dwelling every where he looked he saw his now ex-lover. He’d known the second that Gibbs had placed that badge in his hand what it meant. He wasn’t just leaving the team. His exit was extremely more personal than that where Tony was concerned. Gibbs was leaving Tony. For days he’d wondered when his lover would return to him whole again and now he knew the answer was never.

Abby, Ziva, and Tim had all invited him to come out with them, but quietly and politely he’d turned them down, He needed to be alone, needed to think. He needed Gibbs. Finally unable to withstand the its presence any longer he reached back and pulled out the new badge. The director had quietly confirmed Gibbs’ words. The team was now his. He couldn’t say he didn’t want it, he just hadn’t thought it would happen this soon. He hadn’t thought he and Gibbs would last forever, he just hadn’t imagined that their time together would be cut so short.

As the tears began to fall slowly, Tony laid down on his side curling up in a ball and let them come. Gibbs was alive and gone at the same time. He’d lived and yet for Tony he might as well be dead.

Tony wasn’t sure the pain and anger would ever go away.

The End
