Today was going relatively uneventful, until my boss' boss calls my and two co-workers into his office (the other two had already left for the day, and the last one was up in H-R).
He sits us down, and lets us know that the one co-worker up in H-R is getting the axe, because the company "made a business decision to eliminate her position."
Sooo, does that mean her work doesn't exist anymore?
No such luck.
She's getting laid off (not fired, she does just fine at what she does), and what she would be doing is getting divided and distributed amongst the rest of us.
...When we're already at capacity for our own workloads.
"Oh no worries," says my boss' boss, "We'll make overtime available on an 'as-needed' basis."
So the solution is shit-can a person who is doing just fine covering the job that they do, and give it to people who don't have time to do the work that's going to be left.
And this is also assuming the laid-off co-worker decides to take the "option" to stay during the whole one-week notice they gave her to train the rest of us how to her her jobs.
Why is it whenever you think things can't get worse, they do?
And I don't think they'll be any pay increases to compensate for the extra responsibilities either.
Going to apply at Boeing tonight. Apparently they're hiring entry level positions for various departments. One of which is Security guards (which I have experience with, thanks to my time at the Loomis Armored Car Co) that start at $18 an hour (or so the rumor mill goes). Great company to work for, great benefits, or so I keep hearing. Plus 2-weeks off in December, just because the company is that awesome? Sounds like a deal!
