My friend has that on a bumper sticker.
Clearly, she's very political.
I'm NOT very political. I have opinions, but I don't keep up with the news and the goings-on in the world nearly as much as I should.
The thing is, the sticker is absolutely true.
It's amazing how much we forget or let go or whatever.
I just saw Fahrenheit 9/11, and it reminded me.
Let me preface this by saying that if you're for Bush, the war in Iraq, the Patriot Act, whatever ... well, that's your business. As long as you know the facts and have an informed opinion, I'm not going to tell you what to think.
What I *will* say is that I would recommend this movie to everyone, as long as you're not SO firmly dug into your position that you'd likely get yourself into a fight at the theater.
Clearly, you can't swallow anyone's propaganda whole. Not the government's, and not Michael Moore's either. Shame on you if you do. I just feel like this movie - if people actually go out and see it - will wake up a lot of people who have grown (or remained, as the case may be) disinterested, detached, or apathetic.
And, to my surprise, there were a TON of people out at the theater today doing just that. The showing that I went to, and the one right after, were both packed. In the middle of the afternoon. Not quite sold out, but that's still pretty fucking cool.
Ugh. I apologize for the fact that I can't properly describe the movie or explain why it affected me so much. I do know that I walked out feeling both sad and sick to my stomach. And that I can't recommend strongly enough that you all go out and see it for yourselves.
