OTD in 2019: MDing Fiddler in Romania
A little sneak peek of Fiddler at Teatrul Evreiesc de Stat in Bucharest last spring of 2019. Had to put those countless hours of rehearsal tapes to use, finally. Basically I had 10 days to achieve the impossible, to assemble this huge musical, basically an opera / musical, almost from scratch, with the songs in Yiddish (which I speak and the version I knew by heart) and scenes in Romanian (which I didn't know at all), and then come back 2 months later to coach two Bucharest conductors and conduct the premiere performances. Without further details, to say that it was challenging would be a hard understatement, but fun it was, too.
