...he does edge just close enough to take the treat regardless, though. Because principles are one thing and treats are another, far more delicious thing. He circles a few steps away to eat it, giving Ren a look the whole time very much to the effect that this is not a Disney moment they are having here, no sir. This is a dog crunching a treat and you will respect that.]

Still grinning just a little, Ren tugs another treat from his pocket to offer. He moves slowly--if the dog's feeling too anti-social to take another one from his hand, he'll just set it on the ground.]

Nice to meetcha. You get hungry... [Ren gestures vaguely down the street toward his house. Despite everything, it's a little weird to talk to a dog who isn't clearly a person but is fairly much a person.]

[Is that a look of understanding or a look of total lack of understanding. Who knows. In any case, Ren's getting up and brushing the dirt off his knees.]

[Ren doesn't whistle or click his tongue. He just starts walking. The dog can follow if he wants, or show up later.
Either way, in fifteen minutes Ren'll be setting down a bowl of water and a dish of torn up chicken on the porch.]

[Of course, on that note, Ren might be leaving the door open juuust a hair. The cat won't be entirely pleased, but no way is he letting the idea of the dog freezing to death rest on his conscious.]
