[Well, Lyn hadn't really seen the need to resist the urge to try a little of the candy corn in the basement - although immediately after doing so, he spat it out. What the hell was in that fucking candy? Goddamn Mayfield and its messing around with stuff...does milk go in candy corn? He hadn't considered that but would not be the least bit ( Read more... )

[Holy eff, so many fluffity dogs these days in Mayfield. Ren's much more of a cat person, but with all the pups running around, do you know who has a bunch of treats in his pockets now?

It's this kid. And this particular mutt is a heart-breaker of a sweet face, so he'll be pulling one out as a peace offering.]

[Kicked puppy attitude or not, Lyn's ears go up when he catches wind of a treat. He sniffs inquisitively and edges slowly closer, giving Ren furtive looks the whole time.]

[Oh jeebees could this be more precious Ren thinks not. Ren isn't tall, but drops to a knee anyway; skitterish dogs are like skitterish people, right? The treat is offered nice and easy on an open palm, accompanied by a soft (hopefully reassuring) click of the tongue.]

[At the tongue click, Lyn pauses where he is - not out of fright, but to give Ren a long, level, "are you actually serious" look that no dog should really able to manage. He may be a small scruffy dog at the moment but Lyn does not respond to cutesy noises.

...he does edge just close enough to take the treat regardless, though. Because principles are one thing and treats are another, far more delicious thing. He circles a few steps away to eat it, giving Ren a look the whole time very much to the effect that this is not a Disney moment they are having here, no sir. This is a dog crunching a treat and you will respect that.]

[Jeez okay, fluffy adorable thing. Mayfield has all sorts--no reason this dog shouldn't be some sort of people, people that don't appreciate their dog-itude.]

Hope it's good, anyway. 'll leave ya another one, if you want.

[This gets a slightly eager whine and a stirring of a blunt tail.]

[ADORAB Respectable.

Still grinning just a little, Ren tugs another treat from his pocket to offer. He moves slowly--if the dog's feeling too anti-social to take another one from his hand, he'll just set it on the ground.]

[Lyn doesn't seem to mind taking treats from Ren's hand, so long as the boy doesn't read any undue adorableness into the action. He seems to have relaxed a bit and doesn't seem as concerned about being in close proximity to Ren anymore.]

[It takes so. much. self. control. not to pet the heck out of the puppy, but Ren manages it. He's grinning like an idiot, of course.]

Nice to meetcha. You get hungry... [Ren gestures vaguely down the street toward his house. Despite everything, it's a little weird to talk to a dog who isn't clearly a person but is fairly much a person.]

[Lyn glances down the street, then cocks his head questioningly at Ren.]

...

[Is that a look of understanding or a look of total lack of understanding. Who knows. In any case, Ren's getting up and brushing the dirt off his knees.]

I live down there. I'll leave out food on the back porch, 'f ya need it.

[This prompts another tail wag, and a look that might be classified as expectant.]

...guess that's a yes.

[Ren doesn't whistle or click his tongue. He just starts walking. The dog can follow if he wants, or show up later.

Either way, in fifteen minutes Ren'll be setting down a bowl of water and a dish of torn up chicken on the porch.]

[No worries, Ren; you had a furry shadow the whole way. And he's digging into the chicken almost immediately once you set it down.]

[...fuck it. This is adorable.

Ren watches for a minute or two. Poor thing was clearly ravenous.]

Take what you need, ne? There'll be more in the morning. Stay warm tonight, bud.

[Of course, on that note, Ren might be leaving the door open juuust a hair. The cat won't be entirely pleased, but no way is he letting the idea of the dog freezing to death rest on his conscious.]

[Lyn will pause eating long enough to watch Ren withdraw into the house, ears lifted. And, a little while later, the door may be nosed open by a dog who sidles over to sleep under the coffee table.]
