I bought a book.
Ok, pre-ordered a book actually.... But still....
A BOOK?
That is soooo unlike me.... I mean, people usually associate me as a person who equates reading as clicking the X or O button rapidly to mash through dialogues in video games. Either that, or I read manga... 'interesting' manga... Or read subtitles off anime.... Or read guides at GameFaqs when I get stuck in games... or read fanfiction... or... well you get the gist of it. (I do read books I do! It's just that I'm too embarrassed to go into the kiddie section to buy the later installments of Artemis Fowl, and I'm usually too broke to spend money for Paulo Coelho's books... curse me for having expensive hobbies... but I am an avid reader of Reader's Digest..... whenever I go to my grandad's....)
HOWEVER! It's not just any book though.... The title of the book is.....
MOGWORLD!!!!! The book is basically about some mystical land in some place where there is this random NPC who tries to defy the natural order of MMORPGs and his programmers. Umm... Yeah.....
I think DarkHorse has a better summary up..... Of course,
the author himself pretty much sums it up pretty well... And oh, it's an actual book! Not a graphic novel or a comic book. A NOVEL!
I've been wanting to put my grubby little hands on this book, flipping every page and smearing it with my lovely DNA ever since I saw
Ben 'Yahtzee' Croshaw promote it in one of his weekly game review thingys. For the uninitiated, Yahtzee is a dude who has this weekly column on this website called
The Escapist called
Zero Punctuation. He well... reviews random games.... in his own rambling, seething, scathing ways.... It doesn't help that he has a nice accent to go with his rambles... N-no, i-it's not as if I'm a fangirl or anything.
The multi-talented dude has also dabbled in game design production and web comic development... You can find all this stuff at his old site
HERE. Otherwise, you can also find him at his new bloggy
HERE.
Li Shan was the one who introduced me to this awesome thingy by the way. But it wasn't until his 'review' of FFXIII that I started to actually pay attention to his stuff. Needless to say, I got hooked, and couldn't stop refreshing the page for updates even though I knew I just had to wait for Wednesday/Thursday (darn time zones) to roll around... It probably didn't help that I was backtracking all his reviews.....
Anyway... (it's not as if I'm abruptly stopping my random typing to stop my overflowing fangirling or anything)... Ever since Go Shiina entered my life, I have this thing where I try to get all the things released by my favourite uh... people. Oh god that SO came out wrong.... whatever. Sooooo, when he began 'subtly' plugging his novel in his reviews... I was... intrigued.
If you were curious enough to watch his work, you can see that he has a very dry sense of wit and humour.... It then got me really excited.... All that in book form? It's like I can carry some of his charm everywhere~
Truth to be told, I didn't even really care about the book till I stumbled upon a 19 page preview... AND WHOA WAS I HOOKED!!!! I literally couldn't stop reading! I have to know what's next!!!! And it probably didn't help that I read the thing in his voice anyway.....
I frantically attempted to attain the book.... Sure... RM66 down the drain.... but I think it was worth it!
Oh yeah, he promoted his book on YouTube... Isn't he awesome!?!
