So:
1. Write down 20 of your favourite OTPs
2. Put your media player on shuffle. The number of the song corresponds to the number of the OTPs.
3. Quote a part of the song that you think has any similarity with the story of the couple.
4. Comment.
LOL I did this meme a while ago, but all the songs that came up were so hilariously unfit for the characters I never made a list. ^^* (Seriously, you cannot put the 40's Anti-Hitler song "De Fuehrer's Face" on a list about pairings.) Also I wanted to switch out a few of the pairings so I repeated the whole thing, and the outcome was pretty sweet this time, so here goes!
1. Mello & Near [Death Note]
And you may find somebody kind
To help and understand you
Someone who is just like you
And needs a gentle hand to
Guide them along
So, maybe I'll see you there
We can forget all our troubles, forget all our cares and go
Downtown, things'll be great when you're
Downtown, don't wait a minute more,
Downtown, everything's waiting for you
Petula Clark, Downton
This song makes me tear up, every time. (Though mainly because of recent developments in *another* show, ahem.) In general, words like 'gentle' and 'kind' should GTFO in relation to Mello/Near, but ... I like it. The song is sweet, but also desolate and desperate and it's about loneliness and the search of kindred spirit.
2. Light & Takada [Death Note]
A performance deserving of standing ovations
And who would have thought it'd be the two of us
So don't wake me if I'm dreaming
'Cause I'm in the mood come on and give it up
No Doubt, Hella Good
I kinda dig Light/Takada. I think they're pretty spectacular apart, so why not together? Anyway, I thought the overall cocky vibe and the implications of 'performance' could fit them. ALSO THAT SONG CAME UP.
3. Locke & Ben Linus [Lost]
Well you locked us up in your schools
But we weren't born to live by the rules
We say yes, you say no
When you say stop, I say go cat go!
Cry Baby OST, High School Hellcats
Lmao, shipping them is disturbing enough, and now a song about teenage rebellion. XD But well, both Ben and Locke were teenage misfits and they definitely don't play by the rules.
4. Atobe & Mizuki [Prince Of Tennis]
Late at night, and you're sleeping,
You'll hear my lonesome call,
And you'll feel my waiting lips
Barely touching you at all
But it's only as real
As any dream can seem
I'll see you,
In your wildest dreams
Reverend Horton Heat, In Your Wildest Dreams
It should be obvious that Atobe/Mizuki would only happen in Mizuki's wildest dreams, so there. Oh, and mine. Of course.
5. The Monarch & Dr Girlfriend [The Venture Brothers]
Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been
Lives in a dream
Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door
Who is it for?
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
The Beatles, Eleanor Rigby
Ok, this seriously doesn't match. The Monarch and Dr Girlfriend definitely have one of the least depressing relationships on this list, and in general. But they went to rough times and Sheila definitely waited a long-ass time for him to pop the question, so it'll pass? Also great transition to -
6. Lennon & McCartney & Yoko [The Beatles]
You only live twice or so it seems,
One life for yourself and one for your dreams.
You drift through the years and life seems tame,
Till one dream appears and love is its name.
And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on,
Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone.
Nancy Sinatra, You Only Live Twice
This ... is eerie. I sometimes wonder if I actually ship them, but I can't help it, I have a weakness for brilliant minds coming together and then self-destructing in a flurry of rivalry, betrayal and animosity.
7. Sookie Stackhouse & Bill Compton [True Blood]
I'm tired of boys who make me cry
They cheat on me and they tell me lies
I want a love who'll never stray
When he sees other girls, he looks away
And if he never kisses me, well that's alright
'Cos we can just cuddle all night
The Hazzards, Gay Boyfriend
AHAHAHA well. ^^* Oh, Bill could be bi, who'd spend eternity on earth without at least trying it out? And he definitely wouldn't stray or look at other girls as long as there's 'Sookeh'.
8. Nagi & Omi [Weiss Kreuz]
It's easy for friends to say
Let him go
But I'm the one
Who needs him so
It's his love that makes me strong
Without him I can't go on
This time I'll live my life at ease
Being happy lovin' whom I please
And each time we make romance
I'll be thankful for a second chance
Diana Ross, Back In My Arms Again
This was unexpectedly sweet. You could say that both Omi and Nagi are somehow looking for a chance to love someone.
9. Noah Kaiba & Mokuba Kaiba [Yu Gi Oh]
I’m a young soul
In this very strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit 'bout
What is true and fake.
But why all this hate?
Try to communicate
Finding trust and love
Is not always easy to make
This is a happy end
Cause' you don’t understand
Everything you have done
Why’s everything so wrong?
Yael Naim, New Soul
This song is kind of a saccharine radio staple now, but ... with all the implications of being brought fresh into a strange world somehow work for them. A little.
10. Liz Lemon & Jack Donaghy [30 Rock]
You don't have to be beautiful
to turn me on
I just need your body baby
From dusk till dawn
You don't need experience
To turn me out
You just leave it all up to me
I'm gonna show you what it's all about
You don't have to be rich
To be my girl
You don't have to be cool
To rule my world
Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with
I just want your extra time and your
Kiss
Tom Jones, Kiss
LOLOLOLOL OKAY I honestly think this is perfect. XD Liz certainly isn't rich, or cool, and as for experience, she's said herself she was bad at sex. Which makes her such a perfect foil to Jack. The need your body baby line is pretty hilarious when I think about how Jack had to lie about "aching for her sexually" lately and had trouble not to hurl while he said it. ^^* But I love these two.
Oh crap. I'm such a massive nerd. o_O
