For those who can't read over there... This is all from the past 48 hours...
Neil is leaving for training in less than an hour.... Right now he's at work, pulling all of his stuff together so he can leave for the week (and so he can pick up the KSP minivan he's driving to DC...)
The fact that he's going is icky enough, but he's also taking the camera and the laptop with him... at least we'll be able to talk, and he'll be able to check E-mail...
I feel like Eeyore..
Lonely week ahead.
No photography.
No husband.
No Sunday afternoon cuddles.
Gotta cook for m'self.
Gotta scoop the cat pans.
Might get the birds sick.
No bedpartner at night.
Oh Well..... I'll live.....

Neil just pulled out of the driveway..... Now it's time for me to call my boyfriend, my best friends, and all of the rest of my friends and have a PAR-TAY!
(I'm just kidding, of course)
Actually, I have to say that kind of stuff to keep from crying.... Taco bird is actually "keening" for Neil... (she is so smart, she knows he's left us alone for a while) Beaker is pouting, but breathing a heavy sigh of relief, because dad didn't cram him in his carrier.... [Instead we put him in kitty cat prison... See picture below] Delilah is deeply concerned about her food supply.... (now that Neil's gone, who will feed her?) and Captain Hook has quieted down as well.... (he's pretty clueless, he bases his emotions on Taco's emotions....)

I am still sick, and still tired, and the week that I was going to use to clean house and such, well, I can't do that.... I'll probably be lucky to make it through work each day....
I do have to report that Neil and I went on a short walk last night. (After I slept all day long again...) It was about a 2.5 block long walk, and it wore my butt out.... I had to come inside and take a nap before we went to Walmart to pick up more medicine, soda, and kitty litter for while Neil is gone....
I think I will take another nice hot bath today.... It will make me feel much better...
I'm also going to watch the director's commentary on Meet The Fockers and National Treasure... (Since I need to return Meet The Fockers today)
I can't believe I am so pitiful about Neil going to training... I was looking forward to this week... I guess getting sick really put a damper on that excitement.
Well, I'm off to go see my husband in my dreams...

Rebekka- My nap was interrupted by a phone call from my friend Jeff... He had some news that knocked the sad right out of me...
My friend Jeff, who has been a very close friend of mine since freshman year in college, is getting married. In July. To a girl he just met a week ago. I can not begin to tell you how happy I am for him!
Jeff wasn't one of our groomsmen, but probably should have been. (He really should have been a bridesmaid.) He and I quasi dated (friends with, um benefits?) my first semester in college. When we broke up (not that we were together in the first place) we promised eachother that we would always be friends, and that we would always keep in touch. I was the third person that he actually called to tell that he was getting married. (I was the 10th person that he contacted... he emailed all of his buddies before he told me...)
It has been pretty weird with Jeff, because Neil knows that Jeff and I have a history, but he is okay with that... (There hasn't been an attraction between Jeff and me for almost 6 years now.) Neil and Jeff play video games together, and the three of us try to go out to dinner at least once a week together... (although it's been more like once a month, with me being sick so much.) When Jeff heard that Neil was going out of town to DC, he asked for Neil's permission to come over and hang out with me.... (Which I thought was really cute.... He totally respects Neil, and doesn't want to accidentally get between Neil and I.)
Jeff hasn't had much luck on the dating scene. Shortly after he and I quasi-dated, he started dating Rachel S. (one of my bridesmaids....) Well, Rachel was totally head over heels for him (That happens with any guy she dates, it seems) and madly in love with him. She wanted to marry him. He didn't want that from her. He treated her poorly, she ended the relationship, he realized what a good thing she had been.... He realized that he should have married her. She was totally over him. He had been trying to get back together with her since.... (even as recently as three weeks ago... according to her) When the poop hit the fan between Rachel and Jeff, I was the mediator that they both came to. They both still come and talk to me about the other one, and they are still "Rachel and Jeff" to most people... even though they are a defunct item....
Anyways, that's what I mean when I say that Jeff is a close friend. So when he called to tell me that he had just dropped a bombshell to Rachel S., and wanted to drop the bombshell with me too, well.... I thought that he had news about one of three things... Either A. Someone had died, B. He got someone pregnant, or C. He was getting married. Funny thing... I ruled A out because Jeff sounded extremely happy, I ruled C out because he had to know a girl first, right? I figured B was the most likely, because you could just "know" a girl for one night and have B happen... (although Jeff really isn't that kind of guy... really, he's not....)
So, when he told me that he was getting married, my response was, To Who?
I was running names through my mind.... If he just dropped the bombshell to Rachel, it couldn't be her... Maybe it was our friend Melanie. Everyone's always thought they would be a cute couple.... Or what about that Librarian he dated last year, what was her name again? My mind was going a million miles an hour.... (I mean, Jeff is a good friend, I would have known if he was dating someone, right?) He finally told me a name, and it was one I'd heard before... but I don't know how.
Jeff has been playing golf and teaching sunday school with this gal's dad for two years now... Of course, Dad talks about his daughter alot, and dad tells daughter about Jeff.... In the meanwhile, Dad and wife have been trying to set Jeff up with someone else.... very unsuccessfully.... Daughter... (Whose name is Sara Elizabeth M. BTW) finally comes to Madisonville for a church event (she lives with Mom in a town about an hour and 45 minutes from here) and wants to meet this Jeff guy.... Needless to say, Jeff was interested in her too.... Well, boy meets girl, God says "Yes Jeff, this is THE one!", Boy hears trumpets blowing and drums beating (Not just because of the DCI CD either...) and guess what, Girl hears Trumpets and drums and God working in her heart too.... by the end of the weekend, they were engaged... They went on their first date Monday, and have talked and prayed together three times a day since then..
So, Jeff is getting married.... I am completely supportive of this... I knew, the moment I met Neil face to face, that he was THE ONE. I had chatted with him online for a year beforehand, but not very seriously... we were just chat buddies... and most of what we chatted about was nonsense and silliness... but when I looked into his eyes, well, I knew that he was the one. I could see the other half of my soul sitting there... Anyways... Looking at Jeff's face, I could tell that he had a similar experience with Sarah... and for that, I thank God....
So... Jeff stopped by my house on the way home from Rachel's house. I gave him two catalouges... Helzberg Diamonds and Godiva Chocolates. I also gave him UW's URL, and told him that whatever he and Sarah wanted help with in the wedding planning process, I was there for them... (Which he breathed a heavy sigh of relief over.... he is totally lost when it comes to planning a wedding, and so is she.... all of my friends know that I love wedding planning....) We sat out on the back porch and talked for hours... He is so happy, he was positively glowing..... I can't wait to meet the girl that is making him so happy! I had him call Neil, to share the big news, and Neil is thrilled for him too!!! So far, we're two of three people that have just supported him right off the bat without questioning the timing.... Everyone else has questioned the timing...
The other person that has supported Jeff on the 3 months before the wedding thing is Melanie, whose parents met and were married within 3 months, and are still happily married 30 years later!
Anyways... I am a babbling fool with Jeff's big news... I am absolutely tickled pink for him... I will keep you all up to date with details of the wedding plans... (they are both firmly focused on planning the marriage... which is absolutely the right thing for them to do...)
After Jeff left, I reheated the Thai food that Neil brought back from Frankfort Ky yesterday... (I had half of my meal for dinner last night, and the other half tonight) It was delicious! After dinner, I crashed on the couch.... Now I am ready to go take a shower and crash in my bed... I get the whole bed to myself!!!
I talked with Neil earlier, and told him how much I love him.... He's having a good time at his parent's house... (He left for DC a day early so he could celebrate Mother's day with his mom and grandma) Tommorow he picks up the other three guys from the labs in Eastern KY and drives with them to the Dulles International Airport Hotel... which is where most of their training conference will take place... I sent Neil with my laptop... so he will have internet access while he's there! (Which puts an end to me lazing about in bed surfing the internet...) I also let him take the digital camera.... so he's supposed to take LOTS of pictures for me... (If he doesn't, he'll have some 'splaining to do.... I've been craving that camera all day long...)
Anyways... I am in a pretty chipper mood right now.... So I had better take my bubbly self and get showered and into bed....
-Katie
I had the best night's sleep last night.... If I could, I would take a picture of how I had the bed set up... it was the most comfortable "nest" I have made yet! I had three normal bedpillows, two were against the headboard with one of them on top of the middle of the two. They made a bed pillow pyramid. (The one on top was my feather pillow, Mmmmm squishy!) Then, I had a body pillow set directly infront of the base of the pyramid, running parallel to it. I also have a triangular wedge type pillow....So... I sat back against the pyramid, pulled the body pillow into a semi-circle around me, and tucked the triangular wedge underneath my knees.... I was in fluffy pillow heaven! I pulled my sheet and comforter up over me, turned on the fan with my remote control, and got out the crossword puzzle book. I was a happily nested girl! I slept like a baby, my back feels GREAT this morning. I am feeling very well rested...
Yes, we have one of those Oscillating stand fans that has the remote control.... I always get too cold at night, so Neil suggested that we get a fan with a remote control, so he can have the fan on high when we go to bed, and I can turn it down when I wake up at 4am shivering! (Naturally, he also just wanted the cool toy with the remote control)
I am so proud of myself... I was up by 7am, fed and watered the cats and the birds, and then went right back to bed! On the downside of my morning, I discovered that a "country kitty" (Also known as "pole cat" or SKUNK) had wafted by my house during the night.... I hate when our local skunk makes her rounds! I slept with the bedroom window open last night... My bedroom smelled horribly of skunk. I sprayed air freshener and closed the window. When Neil called at 9am, the room still smelled a bit skunky. I'm airing it out now.
Neil called this morning as he was getting onto the highway. I had a terrifying experience. I heard "Oh" and then the line went dead... I thought for certain he had wrecked or something! He had driven through a dead spot. (Thank God that was all..) I am thankfull that he's driving a state police minivan.... It is a much safer car than his is, and a TON more visible to trucks and such. You could practically fit his car inside of the minivan that he is driving.
Plus, when truckers see a Kentucky State Police license plate, they call ahead to all of their buddies on the CB radio and warn them. They give every official state vehicle a wide berth... after all, you never know who is driving it.
Funny/interesting story before I go, because I can't remember if I've shared it here or not.
Neil and Tony (Neil's newest co-worker) were driving across the state to the KSP headquarters for their Hepatitis B vaccinations. (Neil's second shot in the series, Tony's first) Well, both Tony and Neil are from towns that are between Madisonville, where we live, and Frankfort. Tony wanted to go home for the weekend, but didn't want to drive all the way to Frankfort and back to Madisonville and then go halfway back to Frankfort again in one day. So, Tony drove his SUV and Neil drove one of the office's cruisers until they reached a halfway point where they left Tony's truck.
So, now you know what my DH was up to that day.... When Neil leaves the office on official buisiness, he drives on of their two official KSP cruisers... Yep, that's right... Neil drives a retired unmarked car when he goes to court or Frankfort... The cruisers at their lab used to have full lights and sirens and everything.... However, about 3 months after the state hired Neil, they took the bells and whistles out of the cars... (IE, they pulled the fancy blue flashy grille lights and the siren....) They left the radio in though... SO, anyways... this is an example of what DH drives when he's on official buisiness:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5db29b3127cce91d6b2b41a0800000016108BcsmTFsxbg (That's not the actual car, I just found that picture online...)
Well... While Neil and Tony were driving separately, Tony had his CB radio on... Every once in a while, he would hear a Trucker mention that there is a "Silver Plain Wrapper traveling East Bound on the Western Ky Parkway from MM XYZ" Sometimes it would come out as a "Grey Plain Wrapper" or a "Tan Plain Wrapper".... Now Tony's a smart guy, and he knew what kind of car he was following... He put two and two together, and realized that the truckers were calling Neil a "Plain Wrapper"
Why's this so funny.... Well, My darling dearest husband has a very dirty mind.... Yep, I've married a guy who will be a dirty old man... He has a great deal of respect for women, but he has a mind that is cleavage height, and gutter driven at times.... (He actually bought a T-shirt once that said "I have a pornographic memory" I almost killed him for buying that shirt! )
Well, point being, you know what else comes in plain wrappers....
I think that the truckers had it right....
Okay, now I'm off to UW to go enjoy wedding planning....
