It's Thursday, and you all were probably wondering where I've been. Well, I can't get my laptop to let me on the live journal site. Until I figure it out, I have to wait till I can post at work, which is risky. I think it's the security that came pre-installed, so If anybody has any advice on how to get past my own security, or any other ideas on what it might be, please let me know!
The masquerade D and I went to Saturday was great. We had a really good time. It was interesting to me that the party followed normal party lines. There was the requisite kitchen counter of alcohol and mixers, the lethal punch that everybody warns you not to drink; people formed clusters, then drifted in and out of them. There was music, songs people liked, songs they wanted turned off. There were girls dancing, people telling jokes, teasing, a brief touch on politics and religion, a discussion on ninjas versus pirates. All of it so normal, and yet, the masks. Which most people removed as the night wore on but still, it was a great idea for a party. Also there was live music as promised, what I didn't realize was that it was some of the party-goers themselves that were going to provide it. It surprised me when people started pulling musical instruments out, then set up in the kitchen. Different. Original. Fun.
D almost chickened out on the doorstep. She'll probably not like that I said that. I told her I'd follow her lead, then she made me Knock! Oh, well, once inside, she stepped up. She introduced us, she flirted, she got the single guy. She's my best friend, but I'm a little jealous of her. She sparkles. People are drawn to her. I know things like this make her nervous, but she still flirts and laughs. When I get nervous, I get quieter. I wish I was more like her. I was a little bummed Sunday, that the opportunity wasn't there for me, and if I had written then, this post would have been much more depressing. But my natural optimism has reasserted itself, and I know that there will be a time and place I will make a connection with someone. As my grandmother said, there's a lid for every pot!
In other news, we had a great time at the Lumberjax game Friday. We ate nachos, cotton candy, and snow cones. We cheered and booed, and by the end of the game, started to figure it out. We figured out the shot clock, the offensive and defensive switches, and a few of the penalties. There were a lot of penalties! I apologize to any lacrosse enthusiasts and/or Lumberjax fans, but it was our very first game and we didn't have anyone to explain it to us. It was fast and intense, and we had a blast. Oh, and the Jax won, 13 to12! We'd like to go again sometime.
So, two new somethings. First lacrosse, then a crashed masquerade. What next?
