October was a mild month and we arranged to do a tractor pulled hay ride out to the pumpkin patch with a bunch of the kidlets. Yawning Acres farm put on a display of spoooooooky carved pumpkins, ghosties and ghoulies and witches galore along the trail with hot chocolate and hot dogs by the river.

The kids were excited to get great views of the salmon spawning (and I felt very Canadian to see such an event) and then had a great time playing in the autumn leaves. Then, hot-chocolated and ruddy-cheeked we got back on the tractor ride to pick our pumpkins. Znerkie, naturally, picked the biggest one he saw right at the start and I was left to carry it around while he continued checking out the patch to make sure his really was The Best available. Next year, I will enforce the "You Pick, You Carry" rule that seemed to work for the other parents!

After Thanksgiving everyone immediately moves into Halloween mode - costumes galore and candy abounding.  This year Znerkie was thrilled to be a Dalmatian.  It was a cheapo costume that I (yes me, with my own hands) managed to slightly improve by cropping the ears and stuffing the tail so it could wag.  I am in awe of all those people who make fantastic costumes from scratch (I'm looking at you kiwwidane and AniSanni!)
