Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Holy. Crap.

That's really all I can say.

I got a decent number of hours of sleep last night (at least it was extremely comfortable and uninterrupted), and was awoken by the sound of someone ringing the doorbell. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince had arrivedI set to reading it almost immediately. I believe I began reading at 10am and ( Read more... )

Thanks for fixing my Fudge. :) I did write that around 3am or so.

1. Draco

He was probably just using that bathroom because he knew no one went there. He could have used the Room of Requirement, but maybe he wanted someone to comfort him a bit rather than be all by himself. I don't think anything's "up" with them (beyond what Myrtle may think), he was just a stressed kid who realized he bit off more than he could chew and was afraid of the consequences.

I think his parents are going to be killed by V. I think that will turn him to Harry's side (even though he may hate it).

2. HBP

I kind of think that the books are almost as much about Snape as they are about Harry. The HBP revelation at the end was pretty lame, but it does make you think that maybe the book is about Snape. Certainly Snape is the most complex character, and she's not been very forthcoming about why Snape does what he does. Although the books are about Harry, I feel like by the end of it, we'll have learned the most from (and feel the most strongly about) Snape. He's far and away my favorite character from the whole series. I still feel like he's trying to earn redemption (maybe he loved Lily) while Harry is going for revenge. Dumbledore has so much faith in love as V's downfall, he must know that love is motivating Snape somehow to trust him so much.

Either he will fight Harry or fight Voldemort, but Snape had better be in a world-class wizard battle in Book 7. Now that she's revealed how incredibly powerful he is, she better put it to good use. >:o It would seem as though Dumbledore kind of passed the torch on to Snape as being the wizard with the most raw magical power to challenge Voldemort.

3. Dumbledore

I know the horcrux thing was farfetched, he gives the impression in the book of a horcrux/torn soul as something he would never do. (That would be like JK though, wouldn't it?) I just think it's faintly possible, just not very likely (the most far-fetched and all). I think Dumbledore genuinely died and is pretty much removed from the picture. Well, not the picture on the wall. (Probably spontaneously generated.) He's said there's worse things than death. And it may be that he has no plans to come back in any way at all other than the portrait, which seems most likely. He probably just means that he will live on through the thoughts and ideals he has given his students/friends/etc.

I don't think he became a phoenix and flew off with Fawkes... just becase of Fawkes's song. I don't know that I believe someone who is a Phoenix animagus can actually come back to life like a phoenix.

Also, Dumbledore's funeral was pretty stupid and not a very engaging chapter at all. I think there was huge potential there, instead we get Harry Parker. However, the scene at the middle of the underground lake- oh my god I felt so bad. ;_; And it was for nothing!

Last thoughts:

Harry is still a pretty crappy wizard. He's clever and brave and all, but he still uses first-year spells and loses his cool and can't block his intentions from legilimens (like Snape). Something is going to have to happen in book 7 that forces him to really shape up. Otherwise we're going to see a pretty anticlimatic ending.

They'll be standing there, locked in the final battle... which will, for one reason or another, be in a darkened room. Panicking, Harry will struggle to remember a spell, any spell, as Voldemort draws nearer. Finally, he'll cry: "Lumos!" and VOldemort, startled, will tumble to the ground crying, "My eyes! My beautiful, beautiful eyes!"

The End
