Have you ever noticed that people rarely ever really listen?
I'm as guilty of it as anyone else, which drives me nuts. I'll miss some nuance expressed by someone close to me, and it sends me off on some strange tangent, thinking I've picked up on what they're trying to say.
Thing is, though, that I consciously recognize that I'm rarely getting even a tenth of what someone is expressing. I'm missing the background information that they bring with them, I'm missing the precise context in which they're making a statement. I know that I'm not hearing all they have to say, and it drives me crazy. I want to get into brains and start looking under every rock for clues. I want to start shoring up their crumbling walls, I want to... I want to see them clearly as they are. I want to understand. I know I cannot, but I want it nevertheless.
I can only hope that others take the time to understand things that I say, as well.
