Going through my dropbox, I realized I'd uploaded several versions of the
application as progress was made, a little over a year ago. So I thought it'd be cool to go through it and go into depth about the behind the scenes of making it. Dates are going by when they were uploaded to dropbox, so they should be accurate. More behind the cut!
March 1, 2015: This isn't the first sketch, but it's early on. Just hashing things out. At this point it looks very similar to PMD-Unity's app, which I was using as a reference.
As you can see, the Scholars guild was going to be called Seers. This was a very late change, I believe. They've always been the "science" guild, though.
According to dropbox, this was uploaded the same day. Trying to figure out how the reputation bars would work. Also, honeycomb storage, which is used for extra inventory, was going to be part of the main app, like the storage in PMD-Explorer's one.
March 2, 2015: The final sketch is done with nice, clean lines. Now it needs color!
Much nicer! Also did a light texture overlay for the tan and green parts to add visual interest. Wood and paper, respectively. How thematic.
More edits. The top green was made more yellow-toned, the team name box is labeled, join date has a box, and the separation lines for the history box is removed.
An example using
Chandra.
May 30, 2015: Big ol' revamp, and it was at this point I thought it was finished. There's now a favor counter and a space for the new concept of guild rank badges. The move and ability boxes are labeled and have been shifted around, as well as inventory. History is removed because I couldn't think of an elegant way to fit it in. Storage is completely removed.
July 15, 2015: This is after the group opened, which was July 9. Move tools came about because I wanted the
bandits to have weapons that corresponded to their moves. There was discussion going on with us admins, saying that members should get something like this too. So it's either bandits and members get a starting move weapon, or nobody does. "Rule of cool" won out, and so move tools was a VERY late addition.
Because it was added so late, there was a bit of confusion once apps were made public, and we weren't super clear on the rules. All in all, people seem pretty happy with them, and I like seeing the clever ways teams utilize their move tools, so hey.
Oh yeah, and Seers got the new name of Scholars. This was done back in June, but it was such a minor edit I didn't include it in this post.
July 19, 2015: The history box, now the info box, makes a grand return. It's now large and spacious to give enough room for additional information and reference on characters. This is a design aspect I'm pretty proud of.
And here's a new example team, showing that one can also use a color overlay if they'd like to spice up their app, since all art apps look the same. Both the
art and
writing apps were made public the next day.
