In reading the race reviews, I find a common sentiment is "That was awesome! I am totally doing it again next year!"
Indeed, I've thought that myself, but the reality is, that I don't "do it again next year". Rather, I am too excited about new and exciting races that I've never been to before. I have a spreadsheet (i know, i know) that has a bunch of races on it. In being a one timer for almost all my races, am I detracting from the race? Or am I "increasing the water level" so to speak? All, I know is that my one repeat race was my least favorite since it was lonelier and colder than the previous year, neither of which is the races fault.
Further more, what is the rate of attrition on a race? Except for the inaugural races, how many people repeat? It's tough to tell since racers are so commonly happy excited people anyway.
