Seasons greetings to all contestants! At long last, Name That Song is returning for a month-long run through the holidays that will take us from turkey-cutting to the drop of the big ball at Times Square. The contest has undergone renovations to help make it bigger, badder, more explosive, and more fun than ever before!

The game will still follow the same basic guidelines that it did almost two years ago, when it began -

I’ll post lyrics from songs in my away messages. It’s your job to figure out what song the lyrics are from! The first person to correctly guess the name of the song quoted in the away message will get a “win” tallied to their name. Win statistics for all scoring contestants will be displayed in the profile so that everyone can keep track of the competition.

I’ve added on some extra goodies to enhance the gaming experience for all players. Some of these augmentations are brand-new; some are finalized versions of older add-ons from previous competitions. Here’s a short list of some of the major ones you (the contestant) may encounter during your fight to attain the coveted title of Name That Song Champion:

- Certain songs, especially the more obscure ones, will have bonuses attached to them, and the bonuses will be explained in the away message. For example, I might ask for the name of a song, and for a bonus point, the name of the artist/band who recorded the song OR the name of the album that the song is from. Contestants MUST get the “win” for the song name in order to qualify for the bonus “win;” if a contestant is first to buzz in and gets the name of the song but not the artist, and a second contestant buzzes in shortly after with the name of the song and the accompanying artist, only the first contestant will get a point.

- Weekends will be special-category Name That Song rounds; all questions will be devoted to specific bits of the musical world. For those of you who like to keep track of all this stuff, here is the weekend schedule for Name That Song:
November 26-27 - Performers at the Philadelphia Live 8 concert last summer
December 3-4 - Piano Players
December 10-11 - Coldplay / Dave Matthews Band
December 17-18 - Disney Songs
December 24-25 - Klaniecki’s iPod’s Top 25 Most Played (pending family trip to Pittsburgh for Christmas)
December 31-January 1 - Songs You Hear At SHS Dances

- This is probably my favorite addition.
Tuesday and Thursday evenings will be “Lightning Round” nights. Lightning Rounds will take place in a chatroom specifically for the Name That Song contest. I’ll be putting up song lyrics, and the point for the lyrics will be up for grabs for anyone in the chatroom! If you want to play for part or all of the Lightning Round, you’ll just have to drop me a line on AIM and ask for an invite to the chatroom - I’ll have an away message that says the Lightning Round has been activated so you know when to ask for an invite. Lightning Rounds will start around 9 PM (unless otherwise noted), and at least 20 points will be given out during each Lightning Round. If for some reason I cannot make it for a Lightning Round on a particular Tuesday or Thursday, I’ll put up an away message saying so beforehand, and I will do my best to reschedule the Lightning Round for another time.

Last, but not least, the fabulous prizes:

Third place winner will get honorably mentioned in the profile!

Second place winner will get honorably mentioned in the profile, along with a CD of eighty minutes worth of Name That Songs of their choice on it!

First place winner, the Name That Song Champion, will get honored in the profile, along with a CD of eighty minutes worth of Name That Songs of their choice on it! They will also get a “secret awesome mix” that I’ll make for them, which will undoubtedly kick major ass! They will ALSO get a $10 gift card for Borders that they can put towards buying even more great music!

Be excited, everyone. November 25th is just around the corner, and the countdown has already begun…
