Quote of the Entry:
"So I went out and bought all my angels earplugs."
- Romaine Patterson
Fred Phelps is a leader in gay oppression. He has a website:
www.godhatesfags.com
Being a part of The Laramie Project has brought me much closer to this conflict than I would otherwise have come. But here I am. And Phelps is one of the leaders on the other side. Phelps preaches that the Bible states that homosexuality is a sin, and that anyone who practices homosexuality will go to Hell. And, like any trained arguer, he uses verses from primary sources (in this case, the Bible) to prove his point. But I have something for him, something from the Bible for him. You want to interpret the Bible, go ahead, but what about this?
"Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD."
- Leviticus 19:18
"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
- Matthew 22:37-39
" Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
- Romans 13:8-9
"And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise."
- Luke 6:31
"For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
- Galatians 5:14
Phelps, you wanna play hardball? How many different Bible books have to say, in so many words, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself," before you give up your crusade against your fellow human beings and realize that what you're doing is wrong?
I'll update on my own life soon, but I needed to make sure that I dedicated a whole entry to this. Because this is how change starts. Now is as good a time as any to take a stand. Mr. Phelps, how do you dispute "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" and keep up your gay discrimination? When the phrase appears so many times in the bible?
Ball's in your court.

P.S. The Laramie Project has helped me to find which side of the fence I'm on. I mean, look at me: you don't need to be gay to hate Phelps and what he stands for. Thank you to SHS's The Laramie Project.
