Wow, my week of "vacation" went by so quickly. It is already Tuesday and I will be returning to my job at the lab tonight. It is a mixed feeling; it is nice to be doing something again (as opposed to being at home and wondering what to do), as well as not feeling like working. It will be good to get together with my coworker (Nora) again.
The garden is more or less done, as I have already weeded everything, put fresh layers of mulch on the ground, and planted quite a bit of plants. Friday, Kim and I drove to Northern Utah (Willard Bay) to a nursery, then to East Layton for another nursery. It was a nice day, and I got some more plants such as
sulfur buckwheat (an Utahn native plant that you see in mountains),
fleabane,
Desert Four O'Clock,
Jupiter's Beard,
Globemallow (an Utahn native with orange flowers), some pink daisy and also yellow daisy. I also got the rock gravel spread over in the drier part of the garden.
What's left to do? I am trying to think how to unify the rock and mulch elements of the garden, besides adding some medium sized river rocks. Kim suggests using boulders as well as plants. I also have the cacti plants that still need to be planted, but I am kind of stuck on where to plant them. I just wish that the stupid pear tree was out of the way. That totally distracts the overall element of the garden, IMO. Oh well, nothing can be done about it, I guess, since Kim seems to be adamant on keeping it.
Weather here has been really beautiful, if not on the chilly side. It has been raining on and off, which contributes to the coldness factor. But we are happy to have the rain for the plants and the grass. Oh, the flower which I split and transferred last week, which I thought looked like they were wilting, ended up growing just fine! Yup! Glad to see it being all right.
We also prepared the side garden for vegetables, and Kim's mother bought some tomato plants as well as chilli peppers. Me, I bought peppers, sweet basil and also Armenian cucumbers. Sounds Italian, doesn't it?! I cooked pasta the other day, but of course I ate most of it... it's what you get from being in an Asian household! Heh... I also cooked Thai coconut chicken soup, which was good. What else? Last night, Kim asked me to cook the chicken fajitas for his work, as they were having Cinco de Mayo potluck lunch.
Not much else is new. Have been following the Gallaudet protests with interest. And also am following Deaflympics news as well, since I am involved with the Deaflympics International Protocol team. It turns out that my boss at the college is also involved as well, and that I came recommended to the IP team by him. To be involved with the IP team means shadowing a nation's delegate and team for a majority of the Games. It will be a good experience.
Am itchin' to go hiking, but with all the rain we have gotten, I am waiting for things to dry off a bit longer. There is nothing worse than trying to walk up a muddy mountain!
Take care and until the next time!
