I love writing short fiction and genre fiction. But writing a kids book is a whole 'nother universe. I've been on the road for the last few weeks, doing school visits (Hi Aspen and Piñon and Sequoia students! Hi Horizons kiddos!) and Saturday's mail contained a whole packet of thank-you letters from kids at West Seattle Montessori School. The 1st-3rd grade class drew pictures to accompany their letters. This one, by Anthony Goss, particularly tickled me.

For many years, the people in this drawing were just my imaginary friends. They're very real to me, and now they're real to other people. How cool is that?
I love my job.
